Five children were among those killed in the road accidents, while five teenagers drowned while swimming, police said.

It was a Black Sunday, and things only got worse on Monday. At least 27 people lost their lives in separate accidents and other incidents in Karnataka in just two days — 28 and 29 May.
While 19 people, including five children, were killed in four road accidents across the state, five teenagers drowned while they were out swimming, the police said.
In a ghastly road accident on the Kollegal-Chamarajnagar route, 10 people, including three children, were killed and three others suffered grievous injuries, when the driver of the Toyota Innova taxi they were travelling in lost control and collided head-on with a private bus.
The accident, which occurred around 2.45 pm near Kuruburu village in T Narasipura taluk on Monday, was caught on the dash-cam of the private bus.
The dead have been identified as Bilya Manjunath (35), his wife Poornima (30), son Pavan (10), and daughter Karthika (8).
Three members of a second family who died were: Sandeep (24), his mother Sujatha (40), his father Kotresh (45). Members of a third family who died were: Gayatri (35), and her daughter Shravya (3).
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Aditya, was the 10th victim of the horrendous tragedy, the police said.
The injured — Janardhana, Puneet, and Shashikumar — have been admitted to hospital and their conditions remain critical.
The three families are from the Sanganakallu village in Ballari district, and they had come to Mysuru to visit the Chamundeshwari temple, KRS Dam, and Male Mahadeshwara temple, the police said.
The T Narasipura rural police have taken up a case of rash and negligent driving causing accidental deaths and are investigating further.
According to police sources, the Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV) was completely crushed due to the impact of the accident in the head-on collision between the two vehicles travelling at high speed.
“While the bus was headed from T Narasipura towards Kollegal, the Innova was coming from Kollegal towards Bengaluru,” a senior police officer told South First.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh each to the families of the 10 killed. Superintendent of Police Mysuru district Seema Latkar, and the Deputy Commissioner visited the spot of accident and supervised the investigation.
A trip to Nandi Hills and a swim turned tragic for four teenagers who drowned in the Ramanathapura lake in Devanahalli taluk, on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
The four victims were identified as Sheik Tahir, Touheed, Shahid, and Faizal Khan, all of them 18 and residents of RT Nagar in Bengaluru.
Two of the bodies were retrieved from the lake on Sunday evening, while the other two were found on Monday.
According to villagers, one of the teenagers, who apparently did not know how to swim, ventured into the lake and was drowning. The other three died attempting to save him.
On being informed by the villagers, Vishwanthapura police reached to the spot and also alerted the Fire and Emergency Services.
Six people, including two children and a woman, died on the spot in an accident involving a car and a truck in Kushtagi taluk on Sunday.
The incident happened on the national highway near Kalkeri village.
All the deceased are said to be from Vijayapura, and the car they were travelling was enroute from Vijayapura to Bengaluru. The truck was on its way to Gujarat from Tamil Nadu, the police said.
The police suspect that one of the tyres of the car burst and the vehicle jumped the median and collided with the truck coming from the opposite direction.
The impact of the head-on collision was such that a crane had to be used to remove the car from under the lorry, before the bodies could be extricated from the mangled remains, police said. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against the driver.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, expressing grief over the accident, announced a solatium of ₹2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.
A two-wheeler rider was killed instantly after the scooter he was riding collided with a goods vehicle near Sudharshan Circle in Madikeri on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Dhananjay, a resident of Monnageri in Madikeri taluk of Kodagu district.
The police said that Dhanjanay was headed to a friend’s house for lunch when the accident occurred on Siddhapura Road.
In Belagavi’s Hosur Basavanna Nagar, a 28-year-old man was murdered over a property dispute on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Milind Chandrakant Jadhav, was brutally attacked by one of his relatives, Abhijit Jadhav, who has been taken into custody by the police.
The Shahpur police have taken up a case and are investigating further.
In an unfortunate incident, a 16-year-old boy who had gone for a swim in Siddhannabhavi Kola in Bailahongala taluk in Belagavi, hit his head to a rock inside the water and drowned.
The deceased, identified as Krishna Basavaraj Hanbara, was a resident of Mastamardi village, and a case of unnatural death has been registered at the Bailahongala police station on Sunday.
The Mysuru district police has taken up a case of unnatural death after they found a man’s body inside a water tank at an under-construction building in Vijayanagar on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Christo Cherian (35), son of KM Cherian, a businessman running an engineering firm in the Hebbal Industrial Area, the police said.
Though the parents of the deceased have expressed suspicion over the death, the police have taken up a case of unnatural death and are investigating further.
Two youngsters were killed on the spot after their bike collided with a canter near Kalasthavadi Gate on the Mysuru-Bengaluru road on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as PS Nithin (21), and Shaheen Shajan (21), both of them residents of neighbouring Kerala.
The NR Traffic Police have taken up a case of rash and negligent driving causing accidental death against the canter driver and are investigating further.
A 27-year-old woman died by suicide at her house in Deviramanahalli village of Nanjangud taluk in Mysuru district on Sunday.
The deceased, Preethi, had married one Jagadish (30) around five years ago, and the couple had a four-year-old child.
The police said that the couple quarreled frequently, and this could have led Preethi to take the extreme step.
The Nanjangud rural police have taken up the case and are investigating further.
