Twitter had a field day with a viral post of a pothole in Bengaluru on Google Maps, which had mock reviews on it before it was deleted.
Bengaluru’s roads are in a bad condition, creating a massive problem — especially during rains. Potholes only add to the difficulties commuters face.
Those in Bengaluru have often taken innovative ways to highlight the poor condition of the roads. One such attempt is now viral on social media.
A pothole in Bengaluru was geotagged by someone and was accessible on Google Maps landmarks.
The landmark was named Abizer’s Pothole, and was logged under “Historical Landmark in Bengaluru”. Interestingly, it had a few reviews from citizens as well!
A popular parody Twitter account, Nimo Tai (@Cryptic_Miind), was the first to share the Google Maps location screenshots.

People reviewed the pothole with five stars and left hilarious mock reviews, including, “Very good pothole. Must visit at least once. Guaranteed to hit your chassis in the right places [sic]”.
Another reviewed, “Ever since its appearance real estate is booming in the area, in case you are inconvenienced by the pothole there is a conveniently located physiotherapist right opposite [sic]”.
Yet another said: “Top tier pothole, great location very close to many grocery stores and all good schools [sic]”.
Screenshots of these reviews went viral after being widely circulated on Twitter.
Netizens even recommended that all potholes be added on Google Maps and named after politicians in charge of maintaining the area.
a great idea to pin it on Google. Could’ve named it after the local corporator or MLA/MP. Let them have their day on Google as well when their pothole tops search results?
Should start this in Mumbai too

They should name it after the municipality officials. Top post gets the largest/deepest honour.

Time and again, Bengaluru residents have resorted to innovative ways to shed light on the issue and raise the demand for safer roads.
As recently as late July, a man dressed as Yamraj brought a buffalo along to protest against the potholes in Bengaluru.
Anjanapura residents in #Bengaluru carried out innovative protest by inviting Lord Yama to highlight #pothole issue in their locality. The protest was to highlight the bad stretch of road, and how strenuous it is for commuters on a daily basis #Karnataka @NammaBengaluroo pic.twitter.com/2kDuXPMlcZ

However, possibly the most memorable attempt at this was by artist Baadal Nanjundaswamy, who dressed up as an astronaut and walked amidst the pothole-pockmarked roads of Bengaluru.
This 2019 attempt garnered worldwide attention. Watch the video here:

A Good Samaritan of Bengaluru, Syed Humayun Shahi, stops every time he spots a pothole on a Bengaluru road and sets out to fix the problem and fills potholes. He has filled more than 350 potholes in the last two years.
The potholes address on Google map was swiftly deleted after the post went viral online. If only potholes were fixed with the same swiftness.
