KV Stanley and Parashuram ML, founders of Odanadi Seva Samsthe — the NGO helping the girls behind the POCSO case filed against Murugha Matha seer Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru — have sought police protection after receiving threatening calls, allegedly from the seer’s supporters.

In a letter to the Mysuru police commissioner, the duo stated that ever since they stood by the two minor girls who complained about the seer, leading to his arrest, they have been receiving multiple threat calls daily from people claiming to be supporters of the seer.

Parashuram and Stanley have sought protection not just for themselves and their families, but also for the institution’s home Madilu, a rehabilitation centre.

“Odanadi is an NGO with a rehabilitation centre for women and children rescued from trafficking. It houses such distressed women and protecting them is important,” says the letter.

‘We are not scared’

Speaking to South First, Stanley said the threat calls have been coming from the very day it was known that they were supporting the two minor girls.

“Ever since the followers of the matha got to know that we are helping the girls, we have been receiving threat calls. But, we are not scared of such callers,” he said.

He they had initially decided to ignore the calls, but when they continued even after the seer was arrested, they decided to write a letter to the commissioner.

“The letter has been acknowledged at the commissioner’s office and local jurisdictional police have been informed about this,” Stanley said.

Seer’s medical tests

Meanwhile, Shivamurthy Sharanaru was brought to Chitradurga district hospital on Saturday morning from the Deputy Superintendent of Police’s office for medical tests.

According to a forensic doctor who did not want to be quoted, in any sexual assault case, along with the person’s height, weight and other systemic tests, an examination of the genitals is also done.

“In such cases, the development of the secondary sexual characters is observed. This is to find out if he is capable of begetting a child. Also, we check for any injuries on the body, as also any kind of sexually transmitted infections. These are done to check for corroborative pieces of evidence from the girls and see if there are infections in them too,” the doctor said.

Meanwhile, during police interrogation, the seer denied all the allegations made by the girls and called it a conspiracy against him.
