Former BJP MP Ananth Kumar Hegde booked; his driver and gunman arrested in road rage incident

According to the FIR, the complainant Saif Khan was travelling in a Toyota Innova with his family from Halenahalli for Tumkur for family wedding, when the altercation occurred.

Synopsis: Former BJP MP Ananth Kumar Hegde, his gunman, and driver were booked for allegedly assaulting Saif Khan’s family in a road rage incident on 23 June near Shutaria College, NH-48. The FIR details physical assaults, threats with a pistol, and profanities. The gunman and driver were arrested on 24 June. The injured are receiving treatment in Dabaspet.

Former BJP MP Ananth Kumar Hegde and his gunman and driver have been booked by the Dabaspet police in Karnataka on Monday, 23 June, for allegedly attacking a family in a road rage incident on the Tumkur-Bengaluru NH-48 road near Shutaria College.

On Tuesday, 24 June, the police arrested the gunman and driver.

According to the FIR accessed by South First, the complainant, Saif Khan, was travelling in a Toyota Innova with his family from Halenahalli to Tumkur for a family wedding when the altercation occurred.

The complaint read: “While returning to Halenahalli, at around 4.30 pm on the Tumkur-Bengaluru NH-48 road near Shutaria College, a speeding car with three men inside approached from behind. One of the men shouted loudly, ‘Pull your car to the side, I am from the department’.”

‘Threatened, and assaulted’

Further explaining the incident, the complainant alleged that, as they pulled over their car, a man approached the car and asked him to lower the window, claiming to be a gunman.

“He then punched me in the face and hand. Another man got out of the car, pulled my brother Salman Khan — who was seated next to me — out of the vehicle, and punched him in the face and hand, knocking out three of his teeth,” the FIR further read, adding that his mother was also assaulted.

“She was dragged, hit on the head and made her fall to the ground,” Saif said. Saif further added that it was then that the former MP Hegde got out of the car.

He further alleged that the gunman took out his gun and threatened to shoot them. “My father-in-law Ilyas Pasha was also in the face, and his teeth were broken, and blood came out of his mouth. They joined hands and blocked our car, and shouted profanities at us.”

The FIR has been filed under the following sections of BNS: 126(2), 117(2), 74, 352, 351(3), and 3(5). The injured are undergoing treatment at the Primary Health Centre in Dabaspet,
