Kannada TV actor arrested for allegedly shooting at director

Kannada TV actor Tandaveshwar allegedly opened fire at a director on Monday, 18 November over financial issues in Bengaluru’s Basaveshwara locality.

The director, Bharat Nayunda escaped unhurt and filed a complaint against the actor at Chandra Layout Police Station on the same day. Based on the complaint, Bengaluru police have arrested the actor.

Actor Tanaveshwar has been booked under Section 109 (attempting to commit murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 3, 27, and 30 of the Indian Arms Act, 1995.

Bengaluru police told the media that the Kannada actor has been arrested and the gun used to commit the offence was seized.

“TV actor Tandaveshwar and director Bharat Navunda were collaborating on a film titled Devanampriya. As they couldn’t find a producer to fund the project, Tandaveshwar personally financed the movie and spent a total of ₹6 lakh on the project,” said police explaining what led to the attack.

Later, a financier from Hassan district, Kumaraswamy also invested in the film.

Despite this, progress on the film was slow, and after two years, little had been accomplished, which allegedly frustrated Tandaveshwar.

“Tandaveshwar met the director at the producer’s office in Basaveshwara on Monday to demand that the ₹6 lakh he invested be returned,” said the police.

During a heated argument, Tandaveshwar reportedly fired at Bharat, but the director narrowly escaped as the bullet hit a wall instead.

Briefing the media personnel, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayananda said on Tuesday, 19 November, “The incident took place on the previous day. The accused has been arrested and a licensed DBBL gun used to commit the offence has been seized.”

Commissioner Dayananda clarified that it was not a misfire but an intentional shot aimed at Bharat.
