In Karnataka’s Davanagere, two groups clashed over taking down of ‘I Love Mohammed’ banner, leading to stone pelting.

The incident occurred in Karl Marx Nagar, on Wednesday, 24 September night.

According to police, the altercation began after youths from two communities clashed over the banner, and in the clash, a few house doors were damaged, and a young girl sustained minor injuries and was admitted to the government hospital

SP Davanagere Uma Prashnath speaking with South First, said, “It is an issue over the ‘I love Mohammed’ flex banner. Regarding that, other community people wanted that to be removed. There was a mutual exchange of words between the two. Immediately the police were there at the spot and sorted out the issue. Later they gave a complaint and we have registered a case. Within five minutes, the situation was entirely under control and no arrests have been made yet.”

According to Asianet news, “The police confirmed that complaints were filed from both sides. One complaint was filed by Mohammad Sadiq, who had installed the banner. He said the banner had been put up three days earlier, but on September 24 evening, some people attempted to forcibly remove it, which triggered the dispute. Another FIR was filed by Ranganath, brother of injured woman Rekha, who alleged that their home was attacked because they had questioned the banner’s placement directly in front of their house.”
