A special court for elected representatives in Bengaluru has discharged former minister and JD(S) MLA HD Revanna from sexual harassment charges on Monday, 29 December.
The Holenarasipur Town Police registered the case in 2024, based on a complaint by a domestic help at Revanna’s Gannikada farmhouse that he had sexually harassed her between 2019 and 2022.
Judge KN Shivakumar of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court XLII discharged Revanna, citing the delay in filing the complaint for the offence committed under Section 354A (Sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code.
“This is not a fit case to condone the delay in lodging the complaint or initiation of prosecution in respect of the offence punishable U/Sec.354A of the IPC alleged against accused No.1 U/Sec.473 Cr.P.C. Accordingly, this court is declined to take cognisance of said offence punishable U/Sec.354A of the IPC as against accused No.1. As such, the accused No.1 is discharged from the offence alleged against him in this case U/Sec.354A of the IPC,” the court held.
The same complainant had also accused Revanna’s son and former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna of sexually abusing her.
Holenarasipur MLA Revanna had faced two criminal cases, one involving allegations of sexual assault and the other involving allegations of kidnapping. He was granted bail in both cases on 13 May.
