MUDA scam : It is conspiracy of the BJP, we will stand by the Chief Minister, says Deputy CM DK Shivakumar.
The Karnataka High Court on 24 September, dismissed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s petition that challenged the legality of the Governor’s approval for an investigation into alleged irregularities in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam case. This decision has sparked significant political reactions across the spectrum, reflecting the high stakes involved in this legal battle.
The alleged scam in the MUDA (Mysuru Urban Development Authority) transfer of land case, involves 3.16 acres of land. It was gifted to CM’s wife Parvathi by her brother in 2010 and was then acquired by MUDA to develop a layout. The Authority allocated 14 premium sites to her in Vijayanagar locality in 2022 as compensation, under a 50:50 formula.
In its ruling, the High Court emphasised the Governor’s authority to make independent decisions under “exceptional circumstances.”
The bench, led by Justice M. Nagaprasanna, asserted that the Governor’s actions did not reflect a lack of consideration but rather a comprehensive application of mind.
The court pointed out that while the Governor typically acts on the advice of the Council of Ministers, he retains the right to make autonomous decisions when warranted, as in this case.
In response to the Karnataka High Court’s dismissal of the Governor’s prosecution request against him, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasised his commitment to legal proceedings and confidence that the truth will prevail.
He criticised the BJP and JD(S) for their alleged political conspiracy aimed at undermining his government’s initiatives for the poor.
He said “ These BJP and JD(S) leaders opposed the Anna Bhagya, Ksheera Bhagya, Ksheera Dhare, Vidyashree, Krishi Bhagya, and Indira Canteen schemes I introduced when I first became Chief Minister. Today, the same leaders orchestrating political conspiracies against me opposed the SCP/TSP act. The people of Karnataka have never given a majority to the BJP based on their own strength. Until now, the BJP has come to power through unethical means and financial power by executing Operation Kamala.”
“In the last assembly elections, the people ensured our party won with 136 seats, denying the BJP any opportunity for Operation Kamala. Frustrated by this, the BJP and JD(S) leaders have misused the Raj Bhavan to make false accusations against me, attempting to disturb our government,” he said.
Siddaramaiah asserted that the allegations are a pretext to distract from his administration’s achievements and urged the public to recognise the motivations behind the accusations, reaffirming his dedication to social justice.
Congress officials voiced strong opposition to the ruling, asserting that it is a politically motivated move aimed at undermining Siddaramaiah’s leadership.
The Karnataka Congress took to ‘x’ and said, “If there is any illegality in the MUDA site case, it is the MUDA and its officials who should face an investigation. The party involved in the complaint should be MUDA. However, if a complaint is filed targeting the Chief Minister, who has no role in this case, then it is nothing but political malice…”
