Bengaluru students experience democratic leadership at Young Indians Parliament 2026
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Bhaskar Rajakumar, CEO, Centre of Excellence for Health Tech & MedTech, Government of Karnataka, who encouraged students to actively engage in public life and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
Synopsis: The event brought together nearly 200 students from 15 schools, representing Classes VIII to XII, and provided them with a unique opportunity to understand democratic processes, parliamentary procedures, public policymaking, and responsible citizenship through experiential learning.
Young Indians (Yi) Bengaluru, a part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), successfully hosted the Young Indians Parliament (YiP) – Bengaluru Chapter Round on 8 and 9 July, in Bengaluru, offering students an immersive experience of India’s parliamentary democracy through a simulated legislative session.
The event brought together nearly 200 students from 15 schools, representing Classes VIII to XII, and provided them with a unique opportunity to understand democratic processes, parliamentary procedures, public policymaking, and responsible citizenship through experiential learning.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Bhaskar Rajakumar, CEO, Centre of Excellence for Health Tech & MedTech, Government of Karnataka, who encouraged students to actively engage in public life and contribute meaningfully to nation-building. Participants gained first-hand exposure to parliamentary procedures, policy discussions, and the value of constructive debate in a democratic society.
Speaking at the event, Priyadarshini Modi, Chair, CII Yi Bengaluru, said, “Young Indians Parliament is more than a platform for debate—it is a platform for transformation. It empowers students to think critically, express themselves with confidence, appreciate diverse perspectives, and understand the responsibilities that come with leadership and democracy.”
Echoing these sentiments, Samartha Srinivasa, Co-Chair, CII Yi Bengaluru, said, “Every participant is a role model for their generation, and their experience at YiP will reinforce the democratic ideals on which our nation is built.”
The event was attended by several dignitaries from the Government of Karnataka, including Justice B. S. Patil, Lokayukta, Government of Karnataka; Basavaraj Horatti, Chairman, Karnataka Legislative Council; Dr. Bhaskar Rajakumar, CEO, Centre of Excellence for Health Tech & MedTech; D. S. Arun, MLC, Shivamogga; K. S. Naveen, MLC, Chitradurga; Darshan Dhruvanarayan, MLA, Nanjangud; Dheeraj Muniraj, MLA, Doddaballapur; and Vijayalakshmi, Secretary, Vidhana Soudha.
