Deceased Lloyd Nemaiah
The brother of a colonel in the Indian Army succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, 4 April, in Bengaluru after three of his drunken neighbours allegedly assaulted him and his sister for objecting to loud music at their house during the early hours of Sunday in Vignan Nagar under HAL Police Station limits in the southeastern part of the city.
The deceased, Lloyd Nemaiah, was the brother of a serving colonel in the Indian Army who resides in Delhi, the police said.
The cops added a murder charge in the FIR registered against the three software engineers who allegedly assaulted Lloyd and his sister on Sunday.
“There is also a counter-case against Lloyd and three-four others based on a complaint from one of techies, Basudev Samanthray (34), who alleged that he and his brother Aniruddh were assaulted by Lloyd who also bit his brother’s finger in the attack,” a senior police officer told South First.
“Lloyd presented himself to the police station and filed a complaint, based on which we registered a case against the assailants,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield Division) S Girish told South First.
According to the police, the incident happened around 4.30 am on Sunday.
Lloyd Nemaiah, in his complaint to the police, stated that he and his sister were assaulted by three to six drunk youths at the Brindavan Estate in Vigyan Nagar.
Lloyd also said he was the brother of a serving colonel of the Indian Army, a resident of Delhi currently posted in Kashmir.
He also told the police that their mother was critically ill and was being looked after when the partying young neighbours disturbed the peace of the locality.
When Lloyd asked the neighbours to turn down the music and keep calm in the locality, the drunk youths entered his house, dragged him to the road, and assaulted him, he said.
They also assaulted his sister when she tried to stop them from assaulting him, he told the police.
The assault led to severe injuries all over his body. The video of the assault was captured from the house, Lloyd’s complaint stated.
The assault caused Lloyd’s mother, who was already in a critical condition, to go into shock.
Her condition further deteriorated, and she had to be rushed to a hospital where she was admitted to the ICU, Lloyd stated in his complaint.
Meanwhile, Basudev and his brother Aniruddh told the police that it was Lloyd who started the quarrel by slapping Aniruddh.
In his complaint to the police, Basudev stated that his friend Abhishek parked his car near their house and was playing music in the vehicle.
Aniruddh was sitting in the car along with Abhishek when Lloyd came to the balcony and started shouting abuses at them, he said.
Lloyd apparently objected to his neighbours playing loud music and screamed at them to switch it off so that they could sleep in peace.
Heated arguments ensued between the two parties when Lloyd came down from his house and slapped Aniruddh, said Basudev.
Aniruddh tried to defend himself and beat up Lloyd while the latter bit Aniruddh’s finger, he said in the complaint.
When Basudev came in between to stop the fisticuffs, Lloyd assaulted him as well, he stated in his complaint to the police.
Later, two women — Lloyd’s sister and mother — tried to intervene to stop the quarrel, but they also engaged in the heated exchange of abuses, said Basudev.
Two-three others joined in support of Lloyd and assaulted both Aniruddh and Basudev, the latter wrote in his complaint.
However, the next day Lloyd felt unwell and was admitted to a private hospital, where he died on Tuesday.
Soon after Lloyd’s death, his family alleged that it was due to the assault by Basudev, Aniruddh and others tht he had died of internal injuries.
The police added the murder section to the case and arrested both Basudev and Aniruddh.
“A team has been sent to bring the third accused to the city. And we are awaiting the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of Lloyd’s death,” the DCP told South First.
