Bengaluru police, on Friday, 10 October, held an auto driver, for allegedly abusing a North-eastern woman in the city, for cancelling a Uber ride.
This comes, a day after another woman shared a disturbing incident she encountered while taking an Uber ride.
According to The Hindu report, the driver has been identified as Pavan HS, a resident of Gunjur and a native of Mandya. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
The woman, on 2 October, shared the details of the incident on her Instagram.
The post read: “I honestly don’t even know how to put this into words. This incident happened today (02/10/25) around 7 :00 pm. An Uber driver (Pavan.h.s. Bajaj KA05AE4606 ) started abusing me, discriminating , harassing, demanding money, and even tried to hit me multiple times before this video was recorded. This issue is not just about the trip cancellation, it concerns the driver’s threatening & abusive behaviour.”
Responding to the incident, Uber spokesperson in a statement said, “What has been described is unfortunate and has no place on the Uber platform. Based on the rider’s feedback, the driver’s access to the Uber app was revoked with immediate effect. We continue to support the law enforcement authorities with all relevant information.”
Explaining the details of the incident, she noted, “The status showed “arrived” but the driver never turned up, even after I waited more than 5-7 minutes. I called him and shared my exact location, but after a long wait, he still didn’t show up. Since I was getting late, I cancelled the ride & went with another driver. He wasn’t even there even after the cancellation.”
“After moving just a few metres, the first driver deliberately appeared on the road with malicious intent and blocked our path. He demanded money, started abusing, and even tried to hit me and even took videos of me as soon as he stepped out of his vehicle. He was speaking in the local language, which I couldn’t understand. I requested him to speak in common Hindi, but he refused. He even tried to hit me, so I recorded a video of him, and only then did he step back a little. He was the one who started recording videos first.”
On Friday, the woman shared that the auto driver has been arrested, and further thanked the Bengaluru police.
“He is in custody (Kothanur Police Station). Heartfelt thanks to the Bangalore Police especially Kothanur Police for their prompt action and successful arrest of the culprit. Your quick response and hard work are deeply appreciated..I truly appreciate your commitment to upholding the law and protecting citizens.
Thank you for your service.”
