A new test kit is now on the Ni-kshay platform to rapidly and accurately detect multidrug-resistant TB, providing a much-needed boost to the National TB Control Programme.

Mylab Discovery Solutions, which developed the kit, announced on Monday its availability on the Ni-kshay platform.

The test kit offers advanced capabilities for identifying tuberculosis (TB) and its resistance to Rifampicin (RIF) and Isoniazid (INH), which are crucial first-line drugs in the treatment of the disease.

Mylab Discovery Solutions Managing Director and Co-Founder Hasmukh Rawal, speaking to reporters, highlighted the importance of this development.

He said: “The integration of our diagnostic solution on the Ni-kshay platform represents a landmark achievement in India’s ongoing battle against TB.”

Rawal added, “This diagnostic solution will significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of TB control measures across the country. It will also aid state authorities in accurately reporting TB cases, which is vital for effective disease management and control.”

TB in India

The India TB Report 2022, released recently, noted a 19 percent increase in annual TB cases and an 11 percent rise in TB deaths in 2021 compared to the previous year.

The report also highlighted the alarming growth of multi-drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB), which now comprises approximately 27 percent of the world’s cases.

India alone accounts for a quarter of the global burden of MDR-TB cases, with an estimated 124,000 instances.

The availability of the test kit on the Ni-kshay platform is expected to boost TB diagnosis in India. Healthcare professionals, diagnostic centres, and laboratories across the country can now access and utilise this tool.

Rawal said, “Our dedication at Mylab is to provide a comprehensive portfolio of solutions that address the critical aspects of screening, detection, and prevention in the realm of TB. We believe that our efforts will contribute significantly to the national goal of eradicating TB.”
