Executive lounge facility opens at Chennai Central Railway Station

A first-of-its-kind executive lounge, similar to the services at the airport, is now available at Dr MGR Central Railway Station in Chennai. The air-conditioned lounge is for the benefit of passengers, the Southern Railway said on Tuesday.

The lounge, available 24×7 will accommodate 180 passengers.

Located close to platform 6, the lounge houses 112 single sofas, 10 recliners for individual comfort. As many as 18 sleeping pods and four double sleeping pods have also been set up to serve single travellers and families. There will also be separate restrooms for men and women, exclusive spaces for showering and separate luggage racks.

Premium facilities

As per reports, the entry charge is ₹200 for a one-hour stay with free Wi-Fi and tea or coffee. For a single sleeping pod with provisions for a water bottle; special welcome drink; Wi-Fi; and a blanket, pillow and bed sheets, the charge is ₹840 for three hours.

A release from the railway read, “The new executive lounge provides a 24/7 haven with top-notch amenities such as air conditioning, stylish sofa sets, travel desk, continuous Wi-Fi connectivity and a delightful beverage-cum-snack stall. This modern facility will benefit both incoming and outgoing passengers to rest, relax and rejuvenate during their short stay at the station.”

Southern Railway has awarded the Rs 17.75 crore contract to Ten 11 Hospitality for a period of five years.
