Tamil watchlist August

The month of August has, relatively speaking, little to offer in terms of releases this year.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer is to hit screens on 10 August. It is the only big release that has been confirmed apart from Jayam Ravi’s Iraivan.

Producers of several other upcoming films are waiting to see the reception accorded by audiences to Jailer. Based on the reception of the Superstar’s film, they would decide on the release dates of their respective projects.

However, as of now, four movies have either been confirmed or are likely to hit screens this month.

Jailer

One of the most awaited films of the year, director Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer — featuring Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead is set to hit screens on 10 August.

The Superstar’s film also casts a host of top stars, including Kannada star Shiva Rajkumar, Telugu actor Sunil, and Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff.

Expectations among audiences are apparently going through the roof.

Apart from the top stars, the film also features Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Vinayakan, and Mirnaa Menon in prominent roles.

Rajinikanth is believed to play a jailer named Muthuvel Pandian, while Mohanlal is making a cameo appearance.

Produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer has music composed by Anirudh and cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan.

Iraivan

As of now, the only other movie that has confirmed its release date this month is actor Jayam Ravi’s Iraivan. Directed by Ahmed, it will hit the screens on 25 August.

Iraivan has Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara playing the lead and is touted to be a horror thriller. Jayam Ravi will appear as a cop.

The music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja and the cinematography is by Hari K Vedanth.

Expectations from the film are so high that its post-theatrical OTT rights have already been sold to a popular OTT platform.

Adiye

Director Vignesh Karthik’s Adiye is likely to hit the marquee this month. It features music director and actor GV Prakash as the hero and actress Gouri Kishan as the heroine.

Although there has been no official announcement, sources in the industry hint that the film is likely to release on 25 August. The story seems to be set in a school.

Justin Prabhakaran is the music director and Gokul Benoy is the cinematographer.

Adiye has been produced by Prabha Premkumar. It has its screenplay and dialogues jointly written by Karthik and Kishore Sankar.

Paramporul

One other film that’s been waiting for a long and is likely to hit screens this month is director C Aravind Raj’s Paramporul. Starring Amithash, R Sarathkumar and Kashmira Pardeshi in lead roles.

A crime thriller, it revolves around the issue of smuggling deities. It has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and has been produced by Kavi Creations.

The cinematography for the film is done by Pandikumar, and the editing is done by Nagooran Ramachandran.

Sources say the producers of the film are awaiting the response to Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer. Based on this, they will finalise the release date.
