Tillu Square debuting Netflix on 26 April

After Teja Saja’s Hanu-Man, Tollywood’s biggest blockbuster of the new year is undoubtedly Siddhu Jonnalagadda’s Tillu Square.

Despite initial negative reactions to its trailer and facing stiff competition from major films like Vijay Deverakonda’s The Family Star within a week of its release, Tillu Square has turned out to be a massive hit.

Actor Siddhu Jonnalagadda‘s team has effectively drawn audiences to theatres primarily for his performance. The flick overshadowed other films at the box office.

The film grossed over ₹125 crore in terms of collections within just a month of its release. Even on weekends and holidays, Tillu Square continues to draw large crowds.

Tickets for its screenings on Sundays are often sold out on main screens.

Tillu Square is soon releasing on Netflix. The OTT giant has officially announced that the movie will be premiered on 26 April.

The film will be available for streaming in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, and Kannada. This digital release comes just four weeks after its theatrical release.

As part of an advance agreement with Sithara Entertainments, the terms were set in the agreement before the theatrical release of the flick. So, changing them is impossible.

Had producer Naga Vamsi anticipated this level of success, he would have considered postponing the digital release of Tillu Square on Netflix.

The trend of big-hit films moving quickly to digital platforms has been affecting their theatrical runs. There’s a growing concern in the industry that flops and even popular films are heading to OTT platforms soon after their release.

However, from a producer’s business perspective, securing a good deal before release to safeguard investments seems reasonable.

Interestingly, Sithara Entertainments’ Guntur Kaaram, starring Mahesh Babu and Sreeleela, also debuted on Netflix 28 days after its theatrical release.
