Three fans of Rocking Star Yash electrocuted while erecting his birthday banner

Yash will visit the bereaved families of his fans at Suranagi Village in the Gadag district of Karnataka at 4 pm on 8 January.

Yash birthday fans electrocuted

In a tragic incident, three die-hard fans of Rocking Star Yash were electrocuted while putting up a 25-foot banner on the occasion of the actor’s birthday on Monday, 8 January.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Monday, 8 January at Suranagi Village in the Gadag district of Karnataka.

Four others suffered severe injuries due to the electric shock and are being treated by local doctors.

The three deceased were identified as Hanumantha Harijan (21), Murali (20), and Naveen Gaji (19).

It is learnt that Kannada actor Yash will visit the bereaved families of his fans at 4 pm.

Midnight celebrations turn tragic

According to local reports, several young men from Suranagi village gathered around midnight to celebrate their favourite actor’s birthday.

Of them, at least eight were putting up the 25-foot cutout when it came in contact with a live wire. The video of the tragic mishap, which was being circulated on social media, showed that as soon as the banner came in contact with the live wire, three people got electrocuted and fell unconscious. They were rushed to a local hospital where they were declared brought dead.

Four others who sustained severe injuries are being treated at the hospital.

A resident of the village told the media that the young men involved in the tragic accident were fans of actor Yash. They celebrated the actor’s birthday every year and also whenever Yash’s new movie was released.

Metal frame is the reason

It is learnt that the frame of the 25-foot banner was made of metal. When the live wire from the nearby electric pole came in contact with the metal frame and thus the three youths got electrocuted.

Shirahatti MLA Dr Chandru Lamani, who visited the bereaved families at the Gadag district hospital, said it was an unfortunate event. “They all come from a poor background and were huge fans of Yash. They regularly celebrated Yash’s success,” the MLA told the media.

Several fans of Yash across the state and the globe expressed their deep condolences on social media and requested everyone to be extra careful during the celebrations.

The Lakshmishwara police registered a case and are investigating.

Yash is out of town

Like the previous year, Yash put out a note addressing his fans saying that he would not be in Bengaluru on his birthday, 8 January.

He is presently travelling to hunt the location for his upcoming Toxic film to be directed by Geethu Mohandas, which is bankrolled by KVN Productions. Recently, the actor and the production house revealed the title of the film.

According to reports, Toxic will be shot in parts of Malaysia, Singapore and London.

While there are rumours that Sai Pallavi and Kareena Kapoor will be part of the film, all eyes are on next from the Toxic team.

Suriya fans

In a similar horrific incident, the birthday celebrations of Tamil actor Suriya took a tragic turn in July 2023. It left fans devastated, as two lives were lost while they were putting up a banner of their favourite actor.

Later, the police said the tragedy unfolded when the flexi’s iron rod came into contact with an electric wire, resulting in the death of the boys.

The victims, N Venkatesh and P Sai, were undergraduates at a private college in Narasaraopet town.

Actor Suriya extended his support to the families of the boys who lost their lives. Through a video call, Suriya conveyed his condolences and assured the grieving families that he would assist them in whichever way possible.

Telugu actors’ fans

Also, three fans of Telugu star actor Pawan Kalyan died in similar circumstances in September 2020. They lost their lives due to electrocution while erecting a banner for the superstar’s birthday.

Later, Kalyan conveyed his deep sorrow and shock over the tragic incident.

One more die-hard fan was electrocuted in a similar tragic event. In August 2019, a 16-year-old Prabhas fan, a daily wage labourer, identified as Venkatesh, was electrocuted in Mahabubnagar, Telangana.

The tragic incident occurred while he was attempting to install a banner for the release of Prabhas’ film Saaho (2019) at a local theatre. Venkatesh tried to affix the banner from the window pane of the theatre building.

On 22 December 2023, 29-year-old youth named Balaraju, died due to electrocution while erecting a flexi related to the latest box office flick Salaar (2023).

Rajinikanth’s old message

While interacting with fans, Rajini disclosed a personal reason for not staying at home on his birthdays. He said, “Before, I used to be in the city for all my birthdays. Several years ago, three of my fans tragically lost their lives in a car accident while returning from celebrating my birthday.”
