Meanwhile, the Vikram-starrer is registering good box-office collections worldwide. It grossed around ₹40 crore globally in eight days and entered the second week of its theatrical run.
At the film’s success meet in Hyderabad, the actor confirmed that discussions for a sequel to Thangalaan are underway. However, it will happen after he wraps up his Veera Dheera Sooran Part 2 under the direction of Arun Kumar and Pa Ranjith finishes Sarpatta Parambarai 2 with Arya.
He also stated that he told Pa Ranjith and Gnanavel before Thangalaan’s release that it would connect with the audience due to its focus on ordinary people.
At the film’s audio launch, Vikram said Thangalaan was a special film for him.
Inspired by the Kolar Gold Fields, Thangalaan delves into the era of British exploitation. Vikram played the leader of a tribal group in it. The film demanded a complete physical transformation for his role.
