It’s official! Director Lokesh Kanagaraj will direct Superstar Rajinikanth’s 171st film which will be produced by Sun Pictures.
Taking to social media platform X, Sun Pictures announced: “We are happy to announce Superstar Rajinikanth’s #Thalaivar171 (will be) written and directed by Lokesh. An Anirudh musical. Action by Anbariv.”
Lokesh Kanakaraj, for his part, said, “Excited to be joining hands with Thalaivar Rajinikanth Sir for Thalaivar171 with Sun Pictures. An Anirudh Musical. An Anbariv stunt.”

The announcement of Thalaivar171 did not cause any surprise as rumour mills had been working overtime to establish the fact that Lokesh Kanakaraj would be working Rajinikanth in his next.
The announcement by Sun Pictures comes a day after it chose to reward all those who worked on its previous film, Jailer (2023), with gold coins.
Close to 300 unit members of director Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer, which emerged as a blockbuster, were presented with gold coins at a special event.

It may be recalled that Sun Pictures, to celebrate the humongous blockbuster that Jailer has emerged, chose to present brand a new Porsche car each to music director Anirudh and director Nelson.
The production house presented a brand new BMW X7 to Superstar Rajinikanth, which sources say, was chosen by the actor himself.
All three celebrities were also given cheques by the production house, which is mighty pleased with the box office collections of the film.
