'Matka' to premiere on Amazon Prime. (X)
Varun Tej’s last release Matka is all set to premiere on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video on 5 December.
Matka is set in the background of Visakhapatnam between 1958 and 1962. It traces the journey of Varun Tej’s Vasu, coming to the city as a refugee and how the tough circumstances shaped his journey as a gambler and gangster.
The film stars Meenakshi Chaudhary in the lead role opposite Varun Tej.
Sharing the update on X, the OTT platform Prime Video wrote: “risk, reward & gamble – MATKA Vasu is the ringmaster who rules them all.”

The film directed by Karuna Kumar, underperformed at the box office. Touted to be the costliest film of Varun Tej, the actor had a lot of hopes pinned on it.
Karuna Kumar debuted in the industry with Palasa 1978. The 2020 film revolved around caste discrimination and untouchability. It was critically acclaimed for its making and performances.
He directed three movies since his debut—Metro Kathalu (2020), Sridevi Soda Center (2021), and Kalapuram (2022), all of them are small-budget ventures.
Nora Fatehi, Kishore Kumar G, Naveen Chandra and Ravindra Vijay are also a part of this massive project. Rajini Talluri and Dr Vijayender Reddy Theegala produced it under the banners of SRT Entertainments and Vyra Entertainments.
GV Prakash Kumar composed the music. A Kishor Kumar is the cinematographer. Karthika Srinivas R is the editor.
“To sum it up Matka is strictly for those who enjoy conventional gangster films,” our review read.
Varun Tej was recently seen in the pan-Indian film Operation Valentine. His other previous films, Gandeevadhari Arjuna (2023), Ghani (2022) also bombed at the box office.
F3: Fun and Frustration (2022), a sequel to the 2019 superhit flick F2: Fun and Frustration, was the last hit Varun Tej delivered.
