This August 2024, the box office will witness a tough fight among Ram Pothineni, Ravi Teja, Nivetha Thomas, and Nani as they gear up for the release of their new Telugu movies.

While Ram’s Double iSmart, Ravi Teja’s Mr Bachchan, and Nivetha’s 35 Chinna Katha Kaadu are all releasing the same day, on 15 August (for Independence Day), Nani’s most-awaited Saripodhaa Sanivaaram will hit the theatres in the month-end.

A handful of newcomers are also set to try their luck with their venture, Magic, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri.

Meanwhile, Allu Sirish’s Buddy, initially planned for release on 26 July, has been deferred to 2 August. Thus, Allul Sirish also joins the group of actors who will entertain the Telugu audience with their new movies.

The Sam Anton directorial features Ajmal Amir as the villain and Gayathri Bharadwaj as the leading lady. It is produced by Studio Green, with Hiphop Tamizha as the music composer.

Here’s everything you want to know about the Telugu movies releasing in August 2024 :

Magic

Director Gowtam Tinnanuri’s next, Magic, is the first among the lot of Telugu movies hitting the screens this August 2024. The college musical drama features Sara Arjun, Anmol Kajani, Aakash Srinivas, and Siddharth Tanuku in the main roles.

Sara Arjun is popular in Tamil cinema for her roles in Deiva Thirumagal (2011) and Ponniyin Selvan (2022 & 2023). Magic marks her debut as a leading lady in Telugu.

The film revolves around four teenagers who work together to create an original song for their college fest. Magic has been shot extensively in the Nilgiri Hills. It will be released in theatres on 14 August.

In January 2024, Gowtam launched the title poster on social media. S Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainments and Sai Soujanya of Fortune Four Cinemas are producing it. Srikara Studios is the presenter.

Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music and background score for the film.

The technical team includes Girish Gangadharan as cinematographer, Navin Nooli as editor, Avinash Kolla as production designer, and Neeraja Kona as costume designer.

Double iSmart

Renowned filmmaker Puri Jagannadh is all set to entertain the audience with his upcoming directorial Double iSmart, headlined by Ram Pothineni. The sci-fi action thriller is a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster hit iSmart Shankar, also starring Ram in the lead.

Puri Jagannadh is producing the flick along with Charmee Kaur under his banner Puri Connects.

Double iSmart has been in the news since its announcement, as the makers roped in Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt as the antagonist. The film has Kavya Thapar as the leading lady and Bani J, Vishu Reddy, Uttej, Sayaji Shinde, and Getup Srinu as the supporting cast.

Gianni Giannelli and Shyam K Naidu are the cinematographers and Karthika Srinivas is the editor.

Sensational composer Mani Sharma is scoring the music for this pan-India movie. The movie will hit the cinema halls on 15 August (coinciding with Independence Day) 2024 in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.

The filming for Double iSmart began in July 2023. However, the project was delayed due to financial issues. It was shot in Mumbai and Thailand. The climax was reportedly shot in a lavish set erected in Mumbai at a cost of ₹8 crore.

The Double iSmart soundtrack is already ruling the chartbusters. The songs, “SteppaMaar” and “Maar Muntha Chod Chinta” have broken the internet since their launch. The “Maar Muntha Chod Chinta” song landed in a controversy after a police complaint was filed against the makers for unauthorised use of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s popular phrase -“Em Jeddamantaav Mari (What shall we do)” in it.

Responding to the issue, Mani Sharma clarified that he was a die-hard fan of K Chandrashekar Rao and didn’t intend to demean him through the song. He also pointed out that Rao’s phrase was viral on social media and used in several memes.

Further, he added that “Maar Muntha Chod Chinta” was not an item song as assumed by many but a song picturised between the lead actors.

Lyricist Kasarla Shyam said they took Rao’s popular phrase, just like memers did—”Boraan” and “Enjoy Pandago“.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt recently dubbed his lines for the Hindi version. The other versions will have the voice of a dubbing artist. Niranjan Reddy of Primeshow Entertainment acquired the distribution rights for the film in all languages.

Mr Bachchan

Ravi Teja’s Mr Bachchan has caught the fancy of fans and filmgoers alike because of the promotional material.

Directed by Harish Shankar, the Telugu film is a remake of the 2018 Bollywood hit Raid, starring Ajay Devgn. In the Telugu remake, Ravi Teja will reprise the role of Ajay Devgn, an honest income tax official.

Harish Shankar reportedly tweaked the story to suit the taste and preferences of the Telugu audience.

Bollywood actor Bhagyashri Borse is debuting in Tollywood with Mr Bachchan. Jagapathi Babu is playing the villain. Siddhu Jonnalagadda is likely to do a cameo role in the climax portion.

Mickey J Meyer is composing the music. The first single, “Sitar“, is trending at the No. 6 position on YouTube Music with over 8.8 million views. The makers recently released the second single, “Reppal Dappul“, a crazy dance number.

The teaser, launched on 28 July, further raised the expectations for the film among Ravi Teja’s fans.

TG Vishwa Prasad of People Media Factory is bankrolling Mr Bachchan. The film is slated for a grand worldwide release on 15 August 2024.

35 Chinna Katha Kaadu

35 Chinna Katha Kaadu revolves around a couple whose elder son repeatedly fails to secure pass marks in Mathematics. The events that follow test the family’s resilience and bonding.

The family drama is set against the backdrop of Tirupati and promises to present love, conflict, and family dynamics in every household.

Nivetha Thomas plays the mother, a school dropout, and Vishwadev plays the father. Arun Dev and Abhay play their sons. Priyadarshi appears as a strict Maths teacher in the film. The Telugu film also casts Gautami, Bhagyaraj, and Krishna Teja in key roles.

35 Chinna Katha Kaadu was written and directed by Nanda Kishore Emani. Srujan Yarabolu and Siddharth Rallapalli are the producers. Rana Daggubati is presenting it.

Niketh Bommi is the cinematographer and TC Prasanna is the editor. Vivek Sagar is the music composer.

The feel-good film is all set to vie with Double iSmart and Mr Bachchan at the box office on 15 August.

Saripodhaa Sanivaaram

Nani’s Saripodhaa Sanivaaram, a big-budget film, will be released in cinema halls on 29 August 2024. Believed to be made with a budget of over ₹90 crore, this action drama is written and directed by Vivek Athreya.

SJ Suryah plays the antagonist in the film. The makers unveiled a “Not a Teaser” on 20 July, marking the actor’s birthday. In February, they launched Nani’s first-look poster for his 40th birthday.

The teasers introduced Nani’s character as a youth named Surya, who unleashes his rage and anger on Saturdays. Suryah is introduced as a ruthless police officer who enjoys bloodshed and violence. Their face-off is drawing much anticipation from fans.

DVV Danayya and Kalyan Dasari of DVV Entertainment are producing Saripodhaa Sanivaaram. The technical team includes Jakes Bejoy as the music director, Murali G as the cinematographer, and Karthika Srinivas R as the editor.

The film stars Priyanka Arul Mohan as the female lead. She plays the role of a cop in it. Aditi Balan, Sai Kumar, Ajay Ghosh, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Harsha Vardhan, and Abhirami are also part of it. On Saturday, 27 July, the makers unveiled the character posters from the flick.

Netflix bagged the digital streaming rights for the movie. Saripodhaa Sanivaaram will also be released in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi dubbed versions as Surya’s Saturday.

These apart, a few more Telugu movies—Usha Parinayam, Shivam Bhaje, Maruthi Nagar Subramanyam, Aay, and  Aho! Vikramarka—are also hitting the theatres this August 2024.
