'Saripodhaa Sanivaaram' is a surefire hit, says SJ Suryah. (X)
SJ Suryah plays the antagonist in the upcoming Telugu movie Saripodhaa Sanivaaram, starring Nani and Priyanka Arul Mohan. The film is highly anticipated due to the collaboration between actor Nani and writer-director Vivek Athreya, following their superhit family drama Ante Sundaraniki (2022).
While promoting Saripodhaa Sanivaaram, Suryah explained why he chose to join the cast.
“Nani garu insisted I join the film as the antagonist, but I was a little hesitant due to my busy schedule. However, I was impressed by Vivek Athreya’s fresh approach to the script, and here I am. He’s a rare talent.”
Suryah was confident that revealing the core premise wouldn’t spoil the audience’s experience due to the film’s unique presentation. “I can openly share the story. Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is a surefire hit and the audience will love it. It will be a standout film in Nani’s career,” he said with a smile.
The actor-director noted that star-led action films like Amitabh Bachchan’s Shahenshah (1988), Chiranjeevi’s Indra (2002), and the Baahubali franchise, all follow the same basic template as Rajinikanth’s Baashha (1995), featuring a legendary backstory.
“This concept is common in Indian action films, with each filmmaker offering a fresh take, which makes it enjoyable for audiences.”
Suryah believes filmmaker Vivek Athreya added a fresh twist to the classic template, although the concept is familiar.
He shares, “The character Surya had anger issues as a child, and his mother advised him to control it all week except on Saturdays. So, most days, Nani’s character is simple and innocent like Manikam, but on Saturdays, he becomes Baashha.”

In another interview, Suryah compared Saripodhaa Sanivaaram to Ramesh Sippy’s epic action-adventure Sholay (1975), written by Salim-Javed. He noted that the upcoming Telugu film shares some similarities with Sholay.
“In Sholay, you have Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, and Amjad Khan—highlight characters like the silent hero, the gentle heroine, and the eccentric villain. Saripodhaa Sanivaaram carries a similar flavour,” Suryah observed.
Set in the fictional town of Sokulapalem, Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is an action entertainer produced by DVV Entertainments. The film casts Sai Kumar in a key role.
It has music by Jakes Bejoy, action choreography by Ram Laxman and Real Satish, cinematography by Murali G, and art direction by GM Shekhar.
Nani plays Surya, who channels his anger on Saturdays to confront antisocial elements. In the film, set to release on 29 August, he faces off against the ruthless circle inspector Daya, portrayed by SJ Suryah.
Priyanka Arul Mohan also stars as a cop named Charu at the same police station.
