Netflix has released the trailer for its new documentary, Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli. Directed by Raghav Khanna and co-directed by Tanvi Ajinkya, the film explores the creative brilliance of Indian filmmaker SS Rajamouli, known for modern blockbusters like Eega (2012), the Baahubali franchise (2015, 2017) and RRR (2022).
According to the makers, the documentary reveals the unseen, human side of Rajamouli, exploring his childhood fascinations, family influences, and personal moments of doubt and triumph.
Presented by Anupama Chopra, the film features an interview with Rajamouli and includes insights from luminaries like James Cameron, Joe Russo, and Karan Johar, along with close friends and colleagues such as Prabhas, Jr NTR, Rana Daggubati, Ram Charan, and MM Keeravani.

The trailer of Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli starts with the filmmaker walking and discussing himself, then transitions to Jr NTR, Prabhas, and Ram Charan, who highlight Rajamouli’s qualities. Jr NTR states, “He is born to make films and tell untold stories.”
Prabhas, who collaborated with Rajamouli on the Baahubali franchise, and Kalki 2898 AD, adds, “I’ve never met anyone like him. He’s just a mad person.”
Ram Charan says, “I see myself as an observer when I watch his films and while working on them.”
Producer Karan Johar remarks, “He is already in the League of legends. He’s a legend now and can become an even greater one.”
When asked about the biggest challenges of working with Rajamouli, Ram Charan mentions, “I’ve seen mics break.”
Jr NTR adds, “It feels like he has no empathy. He’s a madman; there’s no use arguing. Just deliver what he wants and leave.”
In the trailer, Rajamouli, who passionately enacts and explains nearly all the scenes to the actors, states, “The only thing I am a slave to is my story.”
The documentary explores Rajamouli’s remarkable work, from Hyderabad to Hollywood.
Further, he added, that it was truly humbling to see Netflix, Applause Entertainment, and Film Companion Studios come together to share his story. “This documentary is a way to express my gratitude to my fans and loved ones, who have been crucial to my journey. Their support inspires me to continue creating and entertaining.”
Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli will be available for streaming on Netflix starting 2 August.
