Bhagyashree Borse to play female lead in 'VD12'? (X)
The highly anticipated action spy thriller VD12, starring Vijay Deverakonda, is currently being filmed in Sri Lanka under the direction of Gowtam Tinnanuri of Jersey (2019) fame. Deverakonda is rumoured to play a cop in the film.
Launched in 2023 with music by Anirudh Ravichander, it was rumoured that Sreeleela would be cast as the female lead. However, recent speculation suggests Bhagyashree Borse may now be cast in the role in VD12.
Bhagyashri Borse recently shared a cryptic Instagram story, featuring a monochrome camera photo with the caption, “Yes anna me too,” tagged in Sri Lanka, fuelling speculation about her involvement in VD12.
If confirmed, VD12 would be Bhagyashri Borse’s second Telugu film following Mr Bachchan with Ravi Teja, set for release on 15 August. Official confirmation from the makers about her involvement is still pending.
VD12 will feature cinematography by renowned cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, marking his Telugu debut. Navin Nooli, who won a National Film Award for Best Editing for Gowtam’s Jersey, will serve as the editor.
S Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya are producing VD12 under their Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas banners.
Telugu 360 reported on X that the Vijay Deverakonda and Gowtam Tinnanuri film, announced in January last year and starting production in June, has been shelved due to delays and budget constraints. However, Vijay Deverakonda’s team quickly refuted the claim, with a team member stating it was not true.
The makers of VD12 are set to reveal Vijay Deverakonda’s look soon, following several online leaks.
Viral photos on X show Vijay Deverakonda with a rugged appearance. In one image, he is seen riding a bike along the beach, while another shows him in a village festival scene sporting cropped hair and a beard.
Following the leak, VD12 producer issued a statement asking fans not to circulate the photos.
The team is filming in Sri Lanka and has completed 60 percent of the film. They requested fans to refrain from sharing the actor’s leaked images to avoid spoilers.
Vijay Deverakonda is struggling to score a hit, with his last film Family Star (2024) being a massive flop. Despite this, the Arjun Reddy (2017) actor continues to sign films. He has three projects lined up, including a period drama directed by Rahul Sankrityan, who previously directed him in the hit Taxiwaala (2018).
Additionally, Vijay Deverakonda signed a film with debutant Ravi Kumar Kola, produced on a large scale by Dil Raju.
His recent films—Liger (2022), Kushi (2023), and Family Star—each struggled to earn even ₹35 crore at the box office, raising concerns about the significant ₹120 crore budget for one of his new projects.
