Telugu film lovers clash with Tamil critics over 'The Family Star' review

The Family Star, featuring Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur in the lead, has garnered mixed reviews in the Telugu-speaking states following its release on Friday, 5 April.

Critics observed that though the first half was promising, the second half failed to meet expectations.

Going beyond the Telugu release, the makers of The Family Star released the movie in Tamil. However, the Tamil version received majorly negative feedback.

A popular Tamil film critic, Christopher Kanagaraj, launched a scathing attack against the movie for its poor making and outdated plot. The critic said the film began with an outdated plot and failed to live up to its title, earning it the moniker “The Cringe Star” instead of “The Family Star”.

The Tamil critic also mentioned that the flick has silly scenes. Except for a few combination scenes with Vijay and Mrunal, there is nothing good in the movie. The critic gave a negative review stating that The Family Star has zero emotional connect.

The Tamil critic’s review didn’t go down well with the netizens and the Rowdy Star’s fans. Some commented that the said critic reviewed the film without watching it.

The film critic’s autopsy on Vijay Deverakonda’s film drew severe flak from Telugu film lovers on social media.

A few netizens wondered why Tamil audiences do not like Telugu movies. They pointed out why so much venom was being spilt on Telugu films.

At the success meet of The Family Star, producer Dil Raju revealed that 90 percent of family audiences were enjoying the movie. He said the viewers enjoyed it from the first half to the pre-climax.

While the fate of a film is decided as per its performance after the first weekend collections, much before the release of The Family Star, Dil Raju earned good profits through pre-release business.
