Director Nelson Dilipkumar's latest outing had an emphatic opening weekend with collections crossing ₹150 crore in just two days.

Sun Pictures, which recently produced director Nelson Dilipkumar’s action entertainer Jailer (2023), has finally broken its silence for the first time about the film.
On Thursday, 17 August, the production house officially confirmed that the global box office collections of the Rajinikanth-starrer breached the ₹375-crore mark.
Taking to social media, the production house put out a poster that read: “Jailer — Highest first-week total gross collection in the history of Tamil cinema 375.40+ crores. Superstar Rajinikanth —the record maker.”
The production house also highlighted the fact that this figure was only tentative, suggesting that more updations were likely to happen as the film was continuing its strong run.

Even as Sun Pictures made this admission, the unit of Jailer, including director Nelson, actors Sunil, Redin Kingsly, Mirnaa and Vasanth Ravi, met the media and thanked them for their overwhelming support.
Nelson, in particular, thanked his film’s technicians before going to recall a conversation he had with Tamil superstar Rajinikanth about Jailer.
Nelson recollected asking Rajinikanth, “When I showed him the film three days before it was to hit screens, I asked him: ‘Sir, you would have had an idea of how this film would come out when I first narrated the script to you. Has this film turned out the way you had hoped it would?'”
He further said, “To this, Rajini replied: ‘I knew that the film would come out well but I didn’t expect it to be this good. It has come out 10 times more better than what I had in mind.’ That statement of his gave me immense satisfaction.”
Jailer, which opened to positive reviews on 10 August, took a strong opening with the film’s overseas distributor Ayngaran International confirming that the project made a whopping ₹33 crore on the very first day.
Ayngaran International said, “Elated to announce that the First Day Overseas Collection of Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer released through Ayngaran has crossed 33 crores, the highest in the history of the Superstar’s career. We will continue to break all records this weekend.”

The film also features Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar, Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, Telugu actor Sunil, Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Mirna Menon, Tamannaah, Vasanth Ravi, Naga Babu, Yogi Babu, Jaffer Sadiq, and Kishore.
It has music by Anirudh and cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan.
