Viduthalai Part 2 first-look posters released

The eagerly awaited glimpse into Viduthalai Part 2 is finally here, with the makers releasing not just one but two first-look posters.

The first poster features Vijay Sethupathi as a teacher. He is flanked by Manju Warrier, who previously collaborated with Vetrimaaran on Asuran (2019). The second poster shows a weary, bloodied Vijay Sethupathi carrying a machete across a field.

Vijay Sethupathi shared these first-look posters of Viduthalai Part 2 on X on Wednesday, 17 July, igniting excitement among cinephiles.

The first look includes a quote from the ancient Tamil text Thirukkural: “Those who do not tame the pride of their enemies will not live to breathe easily”.

Viduthalai Part 2 is in its final shooting stage, with a release date announcement expected soon.

Directed by Vetrimaaran, this sequel to the 2023 film promises a captivating mix of action and raw emotions.

Viduthalai Part 1 centred on Soori’s journey as a constable tasked with capturing a separatist leader, played by Vijay Sethupathi.

The first part propelled Soori into the spotlight as the lead, in a gripping period crime thriller. Vijay Sethupathi’s pivotal role was key to its blockbuster success among Tamil and Telugu audiences.

Its cast also includes Bhavani Sre, Rajiv Menon, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Chetan, Ilavarasu, Balaji Sakthivel, and Saravana Subbiah.

With music by the legendary Ilaiyaraaja, cinematography by R Velraj, and editing by R Ramar, the film is produced by RS Infotainment’s Elred Kumar and Vetrimaaran’s Grass Roots Film Company.

Gets a standing ovation at IFFR

Viduthalai was supposed to be released as a single film but was split into two parts, owing to its footage length. It is based on the novel “Thunaivan” written by Jeyamohan.

The two-part film received a five-minute standing ovation after its screening at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

Producer Elred Kumar stated, “Tamil cinema is reaching new heights with content-driven films, and it’s exciting to see our film join this league. Vetrimaaran has transcended linguistic and regional barriers, becoming a global sensation. I thank Vijay Sethupathi, Soori, and the entire team for their hard work and support.”

Set in the late 80s, the film explores a people’s movement against oppression. Soori stars as a newly recruited constable. While Vijay Sethupathi had a limited role in the first part, he is expected to have more screen time in the sequel.

The massive success of Viduthalai Part 1 heightened audience interest.
