Tamil watchlist for April 2024

Thanks to the Lok Sabha elections, April 2024 will be a dull month for the Tamil industry.

There will be no films of star heroes. As a result, the theatres in Tamil Nadu will mostly screen small films.

Vikram’s Thangalaan and Dhanush’s Raayan were supposed to release in April, but they have been postponed due to the upcoming elections.

Vishal’s Rathnam is the only high-profile movie releasing in April. GV Prakash Kumar, surprisingly, has two releases in April 2024—Kalvan and Dear.

On that note, let’s check the Tamil watchlist for April 2024:

Rathnam

Vishal’s Rathnam is the only biggie to entertain the audience in April. However, it won’t be released during the festival season and instead will hit the cinema halls on 26 April, after the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu.

This is the third time Vishal and director Hari are working together after their successful films Thamirabharani (2007) and Poojai (2014).

Rathnam has Priya Bhavani Shankar as the female lead. It also features Gautham Menon, Samuthirakani, and Yogi Babu in pivotal roles.

After the roaring success of Mark Antony, Vishal has his hopes high on this film.

The makers recently unveiled the second single track, a melody by Devi Sri Prasad.

Dear

GV Prakash’s first movie to release in April is Dear. He is set to make wonders with his back-to-back releases and will be busy with the promotions of the flicks.

Dear will be released in theatres on 12 April, a week before Ramzan. If the response to the movie is good, it will surely get a good audience next week, which coincides with the festive season.

Dear is written and directed by Anand Ravichandran. It features GV Prakash Kumar and Aishwarya Rajesh in the main roles.

The title was reportedly derived from the character of the main stars.

Dear is a romantic comedy and also stars Kaali Venkat, Ilavarasu, Rohini, Thalaivasal Vijay, Geetha Kailasam, and Nandini.

Jagadeesh Sundaramurthy is the cinematographer and GV Prakash Kumar is the music director.

It is produced by Varun Tripuraneni, Abhishek Ramisetty, and G Pruthviraj of Nutmeg Productions.

Jagadeesh Sundramurthy and Rukesh are the editors.

As per the trailer, the film is about a herd of elephants that enter a village. The story revolves around the lives of elephants and the villagers.

Kalvan has Ivana as the leading lady. Bharathiraja and Dheena are doing major roles.

Ramesh Aiyappan wrote the script. PV Shankar handled the cinematography. GV Prakash scored the music.

D Gilli Babu produced it under the banner of Axess Film Factory. It will hit the theatres on 4 April.

Raashi Khanna, who acted in the third instalment of Aranmanai, is also part of the latest movie.

Vijay Sethupathi was supposed to act in the film but he withdrew due to date issues.
