Actor Santhanam’s upcoming film DD Next Level, slated for release on 16 May, has run into controversy following a police complaint filed by BJP-affiliated lawyers.

The controversy surrounds the film’s recently released single Kissa 47, which includes the phrase “Govinda Govinda,” commonly associated with Lord Perumal. The complainants allege that the use of this religious reference in a comedic context is offensive and disrespectful to Hindu sentiments.

A petition has been submitted to the Salem City Police Commissioner seeking a ban on the film and action against actor Santhanam. With just four days left for its release, the complaint has sparked concern over potential legal hurdles for the film’s release.

The film, directed by Prem Anand, is a sequel to DD Returns, a horror-comedy that received a positive response from audiences.  DD Next Level features Santhanam alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon, Selvaraghavan, Geethika, Nizhalgal Ravi, Kasthuri, Redin Kingsley, Motta Rajendran, and Maran, with music composed by Afro.

The film has cinematography by Deepak Kumar Padhy and editing by Bharath Vikraman. The film is produced by Niharika Entertainment and actor Arya under the banner The Show People.

In the trailer, Santhanam plays a well-known film critic who receives a mysterious invitation from an enigmatic figure, portrayed by Selvaraghavan, to attend a special screening of a new horror film. But once inside the theatre, he is unexpectedly pulled into the movie itself.

Trapped within its eerie world, he navigates surreal day-to-night shifts, disjointed storytelling, classic horror clichés—and even witnesses Gautham Vasudev Menon romancing Yashika Anand in a bizarre dance sequence to “Uyirin Uyire” from his directorial Kaakha Kaakha.

To escape this twisted cinematic nightmare, Santhanam must either abandon his career as a critic or confront and defeat the force that holds him captive.
