Music composer Santhosh Narayanan has launched a new music label, Rakitaa Entertainment, aimed at supporting fledgeling musicians.
In a statement on his X handle, Santhosh Narayanan reflected on his decade-long struggle since arriving in Chennai in 2004 with dreams of a music career.
He recounted, “For nearly a decade, I faced countless challenges to showcase my talent. These struggles eventually led to my career as a film composer.”
The music director announced the music platform on 15 August, coinciding with the 12th anniversary of Attakathi (his and Pa Ranjith’s debut), the 50th day since his 50th film Kalki 2898 AD was released, and his wedding anniversary.
He emphasised that his journey highlighted the need for a platform to accelerate the careers of deserving musicians, sparing them the long waits and struggles he endured.
Santhosh Narayanan promised that Rakitaa Entertainment would prioritise musicians with transparency in ownership, payments, and long-term support. The label is also launching a state-of-the-art studio to serve as a creative playground for artists.
The music label’s journey begins with two songs from singer Dhee’s debut album, “Can’t You Stay a Little Longer” and “I Wear My Roots Like A Medal.”
Santhosh Narayanan explained that these tracks mark Rakitaa Entertainment’s commitment to supporting artists and bands with potential. He also mentioned plans to develop a platform for managing artist gigs, live shows, ticketing, and more, with new acts to be announced soon.
Earlier this year, the music composer announced plans to launch his label on the third anniversary of the viral video song “Enjoy Enjaami.” He criticised Maajja, the label behind the song, for failing to deliver on promises of rights, revenues, and royalties, stating that the three artists involved—Santhosh, Dhee, and Arivu—had yet to earn any revenue from the song.
In an interview, Santhosh Narayanan shared that he aims to create music that stands the test of time rather than chasing instant success.
“I want to look back at my discography without embarrassment. My daughter Dhee was a fan of Ed Sheeran before he became famous. When he gained popularity, people started exploring his older music. That made me realise the significance of every song you create.”
