Fans of Tamil cinema are in for a treat as two blockbuster films, Thangalaan and Demonte Colony 2, are set to make their digital debuts on popular OTT platforms.
After their successful theatrical runs, the films will soon be available on digital streaming platforms so viewers can enjoy them from the comfort of their homes.
Directed by Pa Ranjith, Thangalaan is a historical drama set in 1850 CE in the village of Veppur, North Arcot. The film follows the life of Thangalaan, a tribal leader who wages a battle against British exploitation and supernatural forces.
As the story unfolds, Thangalaan embarks on a dangerous expedition to uncover hidden gold. This leads to a dramatic clash of cultures, betrayal, and self-realisation.
The film stars Vikram in a multifaceted role, portraying Thangalaan and his great-grandfather Kaadaiyan. Parvathy Thiruvothu plays Thangalaan’s wife Gangamma, while Malavika Mohanan appears as Aarathi, a feared sorceress.
British officer Lord Clement, played by Daniel Caltagirone, adds to the colonial drama.
Thangalaan was released in theatres worldwide on 15 August in standard, 3D, and EPIQ formats. The film, which coincided with India’s Independence Day, garnered significant attention.
At the film’s success meet in Hyderabad, Vikram announced that discussions are underway for the sequel, following his commitments to Veera Dheera Sooran and Pa Ranjith’s Sarpatta Parambarai 2 with Arya.
Now, after securing digital streaming rights for ₹35 crore, Thangalaan is set to premiere on the OTT giant Netflix on 20 September in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.

Demonte Colony 2, the much-awaited sequel to the 2015 supernatural thriller, is directed by R Ajay Gnanamuthu. This chilling horror film continues the eerie legacy of Demonte Colony, with Arulnithi reprising his role in dual characters—Srinivasan and Raghunanthan.
The film’s plot spans multiple timelines, exploring themes of curses, familial conflicts, and supernatural phenomena.
The ensemble cast includes Priya Bhavani Shankar, Archana Ravichandran, and Tsering Dorjee. As the characters face supernatural threats, they grapple with a sinister curse tied to the mysterious Demonte Colony.
Initially delayed due to post-production issues, the Tamil movie hit theatres on 15 August. Now, fans can look forward to Demonte Colony 2′s OTT debut on Zee5 on 27 September.
