Karthi's 'Sardar 2' officially launched, shoot to begin on 15 July. (X)
Sardar 2, a sequel to Karthi’s 2022 superhit film Sardar, has been officially launched on Friday, 12 July with a pooja ceremony. Director PS Mithran, Karthi, and veteran actor Sivakumar were among those who attended the event.
The regular shooting of Sardar 2 will commence on 15 July. The team already erected a massive set in Chennai. Lakshman Kumar is producing it under his banner Prince Pictures.
A spy thriller, Sardar received an overwhelming response upon its release for Diwali 2022. Further, it became one of the most commercially successful films that year. The Tamil film ends by revealing that the next mission will take place in Cambodia.
According to the makers, Karthi’s Sardar 2 is a big-budget film and will be made on a larger scale. It will have seasoned technicians.
Cinematographer George C Williams and stunt director Dhilip Subbarayan, who worked for Sardar, are also part of Sardar 2. Meanwhile, Yuvan Shankar Raja will replace GV Kumar Prakash as music director. Antony L Ruben is the editor and Rajeevan Nambiar is the production designer.

Sardar featured Karthi in a dual role, as father and son. Raashii Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan played the female leads. Chunky Pandey, Laila, Rithvik, Munishkanth, Avinash, Yugi Sethu, and Balaji Sakthivel appeared in key roles.
However, the makers are yet to confirm if these actors will reprise their roles in the sequel.
Meanwhile, Karthi has a good lineup of films. His upcoming movie Vaa Vaathiyare, directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, casts Krithi Shetty, Gautham Karthik, Sathyaraj, and Anandraj in major roles.
His 27th film is titled Meiazhagan. Directed by Prem Kumar, it is touted to be a family emotional drama. The movie features Arvind Swamy, Swathi Konde, and Sri Divya in lead roles.
Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Kaithi 2 is another major anticipated project of Karthi.
Meanwhile, critically acclaimed director Mari Selvaraj will direct his Karthi28. Reports say that Karthi29 will be helmed by Tamizh of Taanakaran fame and produced by SR Prabu’s Dream Warrior Pictures.
