Divorce announcement made without my consent, says Jayam Ravi's wife Aarti Ravi

A couple of days after Tamil actor Jayam Ravi announced his divorce, his wife Aarti broke the silence and claimed that the announcement was made without her knowledge and consent.

She also mentioned that the decision was made by Ravi without informing their children, and emphasised it was not in the family’s best interest.

On Monday, 9 September, Jayam Ravi stated that the decision to dissolve their marriage was taken after careful consideration. He requested privacy and understanding during this challenging time for both families.

However, in a statement released on Wednesday, 11 September, Aarti Ravi said, “I was deeply shocked and saddened by the recent public announcement regarding our marriage, which was made without my knowledge or consent. After 18 years of shared history, I believe that such a significant matter should be handled with the grace, respect, and privacy that it deserves.”

She added, “For some time, I have sought several opportunities to speak directly with my husband, hoping to have an open dialogue in a manner that honours the commitment we made to one another and to our family. Sadly, that opportunity was not afforded to me, leaving both my children and me completely blindsided by this announcement. The decision to walk out of our marriage is purely one-sided and does not benefit our family.”

‘Children will always be my priority’

Noting that there had been a false public narrative against her, unfairly blaming her and attacking her character, Aarti said, “Despite the pain this has caused, I have chosen to remain dignified and refrained from public comment until now.”

About her family and children, Aarti Ravi said, “As a mother, my first priority is and always will be the well-being of my children. I cannot stand by while this narrative affects them, and I will not allow these unfounded allegations to go unaddressed. My focus remains on the well-being of our children and helping them navigate this difficult time with the strength and integrity they deserve. I trust that in time, the full context of our situation will be understood.”

Jayam Ravi and Aarti were married in June 2009. The couple has two sons—Aarav and Ayaan.

On the work front, Jayam Ravi will appear in M Rajesh’s Brother and Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi’s Kadhalikka Neramillai. He was last seen in Siren (2024) alongside Keerthy Suresh.
