Dhanush visits his ancestral temple in Theni ahead of Raayan release

Ahead of the release of his Raayan on 26 July, Dhanush recently visited his ancestral temple in Theni.

Dhanush shared a Tamil verse and posted a photo of him meditating before the temple deities in Theni. His sons, Yatra and Linga, joined him on the trip.

Raayan is Dhanush’s second directorial film after Pa Paandi (2017). The trailer was released on 16 July. The film also represents Dhanush’s 50th acting project.

Raayan, an intense gangster drama, is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures on a grand scale.

In addition to Dhanush, the film features SJ Suryah, Aparna Balamurali, Dushara Vijayan, Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Prakash Raj, and Selvaraghavan in key roles.

The film has received an “A” certification and has a runtime of approximately two hours and 25 minutes. The music is by AR Rahman, with cinematography by Om Prakash and editing by Prasanna GK.

In other news, Dhanush’s speech at the Raayan audio launch sparked debate online. He discussed the story behind his newly bought house in Chennai’s Poes Garden, which led to discussions about him being an ‘outsider’.

Many users on X criticised him, claiming he is a product of nepotism due to his father Kasthuri Raja and his brother Selvaraghavan, both directors.

The Raayan audio launch was recently aired on Sun Television. It was a closed event.

During his speech, Dhanush remarked, “If I had known that buying a house in Poes Garden would become such a major issue, I would have opted for a smaller apartment. Should I not buy a house there? If I lived on the streets, yes, should I remain there?”

Dhanush then shared an inspiring story from when he was 16. He recounted, “My friend and I were riding on Cathedral Road, and as a big fan of Rajinikanth, we went to Poes Garden to see his house. We asked for directions and arrived to find a crowd at a different house, which we learned was Jayalalithaa Amma’s. I got off the bike and saw Thalaivar’s house on one side and Jayalalithaa Amma’s on the other.”

He continued, “At that time, I thought I should one day buy at least a small house in Poes Garden. I manifested it. My house is now a gift to the 16-year-old Venkatesh Prabhu (the actor’s original name).”

After the clip went viral, many posts on X called out Dhanush, arguing that he wasn’t an outsider and hadn’t struggled as he claimed.

Some suggested that Dhanush still grapples with an inferiority complex, while others criticised him as an overrated actor who mimics Rajinikanth. They argued that unlike Rajinikanth, who made it alone, Dhanush is a product of nepotism.
