President of India Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday, 8 October conferred National Film Awards to all the winners at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
Along with the winners, legendary actor Padmabhushan awardee Mithun Chakraborty also received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award during the event.
The lifetime award was conferred to the three-time national awardee.
After accepting the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty delivered a speech on his journey and his reaction to receiving the previous national awards.
These awards celebrate the best films and cinematic achievements of 2022, certified by the censor board between 1 January and 31 December. The award function was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The award function started at around 4:00 PM, with the President handing over the awards, along with Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan.
The feature films were judged by a panel of Dilip Kumar Pandey, RV Udayakumar, Yatindra Mishra, Subhajit Mitra, Dr Anurag Singh, and Amol Bhave.
President Droupadi Murmu presented the first award to Deepak Dua for Best Film Critic, followed by the Best Book on Cinema Award to Anirudha Bhattacharjee for his book Kishore Kumar: The Ultimate Biography (English).
From South India, Rishab Shetty’s Kantara, Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan I and Anand Ekarshi’s Aattam received the maximum awards.
Director Chandoo Mondeti received the Best Feature Film in Telugu Award for Karthikeya 2.
A Subhashkaran of Lyca Productions and Director Mani Ratnam received the Best Feature Film in Tamil Award for Ponniyin Selvan I. This is the seventh National Award for Mani Ratnam.
Producer Sandip Senan and director Tharun Moorthy received the Best Feature Film in Malayalam Award for Saudi Vellakka.
Shailaja Vijay on behalf of Hombale Films revived the Best Feature Film in Kannada Award for KGF 2.
Action choreographers Anbumani and Arivumani, jointly known as Anbariv, were presented with the award for Best Action Direction for their work in KGF 2.
Choreographer Sathish Krishnan received the Best Choreography Award for “Megham Karukatha” in Thiruchitrambalam. While the award was initially shared by Sathish and Jani Master, the award was revoked for Jani Master, after he was arrested in a POCSO case.
Music director AR Rahman received the Best Music Direction for Background Scores for Ponniyin Selvan I amid thundering applause from the attendees.
Mahesh Bhuvanend revived the Best Editor Award for Aattam.
Anand Krishnamoorthy received the Best Sound Design Award for Ponniyin Selvan 1.
Ravi Varman received the Best Cinematographer Award for Ponniyin Selvan 1.
Bombay Jayashri received the Best Female Playback Singer Award for “Chaayum Veyil” from Saudi Vellakka.
Sreepath PK received the Best Child Artist Award for Malikappuram, amid huge applause as Tuesday, incidentally was also his birthday.
Nithya Menon and Manasi Parekh received the Best Actress in Feature Film Award for their roles in the Tamil comedy-drama Thiruchitrambalam (2022) and Gujarati drama Kutch Express (2023) respectively.
Vijay Kiragandur received the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment for Kantara on behalf of Hombale Films.
Rishab Shetty received the Best Actor in a Feature Film for his outstanding performance in the Kannada folk action thriller Kantara.
Ajith Joy K on behalf of Anand Ekarshi received the Best Screenplay Award for Aattam.
