The common factor between the  Kannada films Gantumoote (2019) and Tom and Jerry (2021) is the lead actor — Nishchit Korodi.

Though the movies were not commercial successes, they did earn critical appreciation and accolades for the actor’s performance.

And now, Nischit Korodi is back with his third venture titled Supplier Shankara. Yet again, he delivers his best in a raw thriller certified for the adult-only audience due to violence.

So, what makes this raw thriller with a mix of whodunit suspense drama worth watching? Let’s find out:

Synopsis

Supplier Shankara opens with a brutal murder that takes place in a local bar and restaurant on a rainy late evening.

The first one to report to the police about the killing is Shankara (Nishchit Kodori), who has been working as a supplier in the bar for over 15 years.

The murdered person is none other than the owner of the bar and restaurant. He was a father figure to Shankara.

Shankara is brought to the police station for questioning.

This is where two other pickpockets seek to know the story of Shankara. He narrates how he lost his parents and ended up working as a supplier in the bar.

Meanwhile, around 30 schoolchildren — all girls in the age group of 8 to 12 — suddenly go missing.

What is the connection between Shankara, the bar owner — who succumbs to 50-plus stab wounds — and the missing cases of the girl students?

You should find it out at a theatre near you.

Mind you, this one is certified only for adults. If you are faint-hearted, then skip this one for your own good. The film depicts some brutal sequences and police torturing to near perfection.

True to its title, Supplier Shankara depicts the real life of a supplier working in a typical local bar and restaurant in a city.

The first half establishes the emotional side of the main character with some suspense elements going parallel at the same time.

The director manages to serve the audience with every bit of emotion — right from the word go.

Following the highly charged emotional sequence of how Shankara loses his parents to his love life ending tragically, the first hour depicts the romance, the day-to-day life in a bar, and the intriguing missing case of girls.

The making and the performances are brilliant.

Though unpleasant to the eyes, a few scenes give a clear picture of what the makers are trying to showcase.

A few minuses

The losses are so heavy that the overdose of sentiments makes the protagonist look dishearteningly unlucky. This puts the audience a little off when things repeatedly go the unfortunate way.

Also, when dealing with subjects such as criminal cases of 30 school girls going missing in one day, the writer has to be extra cautious by learning what goes into the investigative procedures.

When special investigative teams are usually formed in such cases, the cops here are not so serious; only the head constable makes some efforts to trace the missing girls.

The film goes flat in some places, with too much emotional drama being churned out with no head or tail attached.

However, thankfully, some sense is made in the latter part.

Stellar performances

If the rawness in the making is the plus-point of Supplier Shankara, the other biggest takeaway is certainly Nischit Kodori as Shankara.

The actor shoulders the bulk of the film with the able support from his supporting cast, including the female lead Deepika Aradhya.

As the plot thickens and goes deep into the whodunit saga in the second half, Gopal Krishna Deshpande, as the head constable who puts up a clean act, keeps the film interested right till the end.

A couple of songs are apt to the mood of the situation.

Verdict

Barring a bit of emotion that is on the heavier side and violent act, for which it is certified for adult-only audiences, Supplier Shankara is a decent raw thriller with some great performances.
