V Ravichandran's Premaloka 2 will go on floors on 30 May

The shooting of Premaloka 2, a sequel to the 1987 musical romantic-musical drama Premaloka, will commence on 30 May.

Crazy Star Ravichandran, at a recent public event in Kanakagiri, announced this. Interestingly, 30 May marks the actor’s birthday.

Ravichandran also revealed that his two sons would act in Premaloka 2.

“Manoranjan, the elder one, will be the main protagonist in the film. Vikram, the younger one, will be seen in a special cameo. I will play the father’s role,” the veteran actor announced.

While Premaloka had 11 songs, the sequel is anticipated to have as many as 25 songs.

Announcing the film in early February, Ravichandran said, “For me, the success is to make a movie every time I want to entertain the audience. Many thought I was sitting idle at home. No, I was working on making another Premaloka. This time Premaloka will have even more songs than the 1987 film.”

Ravichandran also took an indirect jibe at the present trend in the industry, where many movies are based on violence.

“Back then, everyone listened to violins (melodious songs). But these days, they are ‘listening’ to violence on the screen. I have journeyed all my life with violins and always aimed at winning hearts. But many are targeting elsewhere with guns at present. I will come back again with violins rather than violence,” he said.

Premaloka 2 will be released in 2025.

Premaloka

Following the huge success of Premaloka, Hamsalekha went on to become a prolific composer.

The film’s music album released by Lahari sold more than 36 lakh cassettes.

The movie ran for at least one year in theatres and introduced the concept of multi-star, with at least eight actors playing the supporting roles and three mega-stars making guest appearances.

Dr Vishnuvardhan, Dr Ambareesh, and actress Urvashi made guest appearances in the Kannada version. Ambareesh was replaced by Thengai Srinivasan in the Tamil version.

While Premaloka was almost declared a failure with poor response from the audience for the first few weeks, it picked up pace following great word-of-mouth publicity and went on to break several records at the box office.

However, the Tamil version failed due to stiff competition from big films released alongside it.
