Sasanasabha, as the title suggests, is all about politics. Made by a new team, this movie focuses on the reforms needed in the present political system.

Seems like the right time for a movie like this when you think about the current state of Indian politics!

The story goes like…

Sakshyam Party president Rammohan Rao (Anish Kuruvilla) and Praja Chaitanyam Party president Shyamala Bharath (Sonia Agarwal) — political rivals — are competing for the chief minister’s post.

As both parties win almost the same number of seats in the elections, they need the support of independent MLAs to form the new government.

For this, they seek the support of Kalyan Prasad (Prudhvi Raj), the leader of the independent MLAs.

When both parties indulge in “resort politics”, the protagonist and all-around tough guy Surya (Indra Sena) kidnaps all the MLAs.

But why? What does he hope to do with the existing political system? And what role does an ideal politician like Narayana Swamy (Rajendra Prasad) play in Surya’s life?

You’ll need to watch Sasanasabha to get your answers.

Thought-provoking but unrealistic

Director Venu Madikanti chose a thought-provoking story, suitable for the present day.

Since most people are fed up with the corruption and arrogance of modern-day politicians, it won’t be hard for them to connect with the premise of Sasanasabha.

But the director spoils the experience by taking too much cinematic liberty. There are several scenes that appear unrealistic.

While there are both brilliant moments and shortcomings in the story and the narration, the dialogues are impressive.

Indra Sena, Rajendra Prasad shine

Indra Sena, who plays the lead role, has done a good job as a change-mongering youngster.

Veteran Telugu actor Rajendra Prasad plays the role of a sincere politician who strives for better politics and society. Roles like these are tailor-made for an actor of his calibre.

The rest of the cast, however, including Sonia Agarwal, Anish Kuruvilla, Prudhvi Raj, Amit Tiwari, Dil Ramesh and several Jabardasth comedians, are fairly okay in their limited roles.

Ravi Basrur’s BGM stands out

Regarding technical crafts, KGF-fame Ravi Basrur composed the music for the film. He added life to the movie with his impressive background score.

The cinematography by Murali Krishna could have been better. Late Goutham Raju, who passed away in July 2022, edited the flick and barring some scenes in the second half, most of the movie is engaging and edited well.

Final take

Sasanasabha is a political movie that advocates change in present-day politics, which has become synonymous with corruption and lack of values.

It is a decent effort from a new movie-making ensemble and people who thrive in the political genre might like the message it carries.
