Ramya knocks court door

Actor-producer Ramya has approached the court against the makers of the Kannada film Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare citing the unauthorised use of her video clips in the trailer and the movie.

In her plea, she stated that the defendants concerned used the video clips featuring her despite expressly and unequivocally denying her consent to being used in the trailer and the main film.

Ex-parte injunction order issued

Gulmohar Films Pvt Ltd produced Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare along with Zee Entertainment Enterprises Pvt Ltd (which is releasing it) and Paramvah Studios (the presenter).

Ramya named them all besides a few more people connected with the film as defendants in her suit filed before the court.

A communication, addressed to the defendant parties in the suit by the advocate representing Ramya, stated that the court on Tuesday, 18 July, passed an ex-parte interim injunction order.

The court ordered to take down all the trailers of the forthcoming film (scheduled for release on 21 July) from YouTube and other social media platforms.

It also restrained the defendants from releasing Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare with any of Ramya’s video clips/images/GIFs incorporated directly or indirectly in the film until the suit is disposed of by the court.

The matter is posted on 7 August 2023 for further hearing.

Violation

In her plea, Ramya stated that the acts of the respondent parties are a violation of the “Artistic Agreement” dated April 2022 and also her celebrity/publicity and moral rights under the Copyright Act, 1957.

Besides seeking other appropriate directions from the court in the interest of justice and equity, Ramya also pleaded with the court to direct the defendants to pay her ₹1 crore as compensation for damages suffered by her due to the release of the trailer with unauthorised scenes/clips featuring her.
