The 33 YO recalls how ‘GodFather’ helped him get into commercial cinema and also talks about his upcoming projects — ‘Krishnamma’, ‘Full Bottle’, and 'Zebra'.
It has taken a long time for Satya Dev to be in the commercial space. Though he is well-known for his craft, GodFather (2022) — the Telugu remake of Mohanlal’s Malayalam film Lucifer (2019) — helped him carve a niche for himself in commercial cinema.
He reveals that he was never in a hurry to be out there and sign anything that came his way.
“One wrong move and you have no one to back you. This was constantly on my mind. After a point, I was confident that GodFather would work. All the previous years, I was keen on paving my path. That’s the only difference,” Satya Dev told South First.
How does Satya Dev pick projects? The Uma Maheswara Ugraroopasya-actor says most of the time it is his intuition.
“I have to be on the sets for 12 hours for the next 60 days and that is the criteria for judging a script. The rest is previous experiences like how it didn’t work for me. That’s how I change my priorities,” he explained.
Satya Dev asserted that he took up GodFather because of Mega Star Chiranjeevi whom he idolises.
“In GodFather, my character is in a separate league. It is about one-upmanship and not a template villain. When Vijay Sethupati plays a negative lead, the movie will be called a multi-starrer. I guess, films henceforth will be known that way,” he observed.
About Akshay Kumar’s Hindi action-adventure film Ram Setu (2022), Satya Dev recalls that the flick went to the sets much before GodFather. Interestingly, he got these pan-Indian films in a span of 20 days.
“For Ram Setu, the makers were searching for a character called AP. All of a sudden, I got a call from Mumbai. We can’t find such roles; the roles should find you. I pinched myself to check if it was real and realised that I was in the league already; that I am a recognised actor. It gave me confidence,” he quipped.
When the director narrated the script, he found it wonderful. “I worked with Akshay Kumar for 35 days. Ram Setu opened a lot of doors for me.”
Thank you for all love towards #ramsetu and AP.

The 33-year-old actor will next be seen in Krishnamma; the shoot just wrapped up. It is a Vijayawada-based rustic film funded by Krishna and director Siva Koratala.
“Krishnamma’s story deals with three low lives. Such characters stripped of sophistication have a lot of scope to perform. How the lives of three friends change due to one incident forms the crux of the story,” he elucidated.
The three youths, whose history is known and who are orphans, meet and embark on a tumultuous path. Lakshman Meesala of RX 100 fame and Krishna (newcomer) are the other two characters in the film. Malayalam actor Athira is playing an important character.
Krishnamma’s director VV Gopala Krishna is a newcomer. Kaala Bhairava is the music composer who is believed to have scored the best album in Satya Dev’s career.
The blossoming of the friendship, the sacrifices and how the underdogs score a point have been showcased metaphorically.

This is followed by Full Bottle where Satya Devplays an auto driver named “Mercury” Suri.
“Sharan Koppisetty who helmed Kirrak Party (2018) and Thimmarusu: Assignment Vali (2021) is the director. Full Bottle is shot in Kakinada. For outsiders, it is a full bottle of entertainment. But in the movie, Mercury does anything for anyone when given a full bottle. So, this leads to a problem,” the actor said.
His next is Zebra, an action thriller directed by Eshwar Karthik. “It is too early to talk about it now. In all, I have these three releases this year,” he added.
