Premalu+Bramayugam=Premayugam is trending as Mollywood's Barbenheimer

When Hollywood films Oppenheimer (2023) and Barbie (2023) were released in the theatres on the same day in July last year, both films became huge box-office hits.

But what came out of them was the term “Barbenheimer”, which was coined by netizens on social media. The term was centred around the two movies.

Oppenheimer had a darker story about the atomic bomb while Barbie had all the elements of pink and was a colourful movie.

They have also been nominated in various categories in the upcoming Academy Awards scheduled to be held on 10 March.

And now, the Malayalam film industry has also got its own “Barbenheimer”.

Premayugam: Mollywood’s Barbenheimer

Mollywood’s “Barbenheimer” is centred around the latest sensational hit films Premalu and Bramayugam, which are doing wonders at the box office presently.

Memes of Premalu and Bramayugam are breaking the internet. they are widely being shared with the hashtag “Premayugam“.

Premalu and Bramayugam are of different genres.

Premalu is a romantic comedy comprising peppy songs and situational comedies that enthral the audience.

Meanwhile, Bramayugam is a horror thriller set in the 17th century. The film is drawing appreciation for its monochrome set-up and for being shot in Black and White.

Mammootty’s negative character and wicked performance are the highlight of the movie.

These two stark contrasts between the two Malayalam films have become a topic of discussion on social media.

Released a week before Bramayugam, Premalu grossed ₹42 crore and is nearing the ₹50 crore mark.

Meanwhile, Bramayugam, which was released on 15 February, earned a gross of ₹30 crore.

The film was released in limited theatres on its opening day. However, after the first show reports, more than 100 extra shows were charted across Kerala.

Anweshippin Kandethum, which was released along with Premalu, also has a steady collection.

Meanwhile, Manjummal Boys is gearing up for release on Thursday, 22 February.
