Prabhas fans thrash reviewer in hyderabad adipurush

A drama of sorts ensued at Prasads Imax theatre in Hyderabad on Friday, 16 June, when a filmgoer openly criticised Prabhas-starrer Adipurush.

Prabhas’ most-anticipated Adipurush — featuring the Rebel Star as Lord Rama, Kriti Sanon as Sita, Sunny Singh as Lord Hanuman, and Saif Ali Khan as Lankan king Ravana — hit the screens on 16 June across the world.

After watching Adipurush at Prasads Imax, a filmgoer rued that the makers showcased “3D Prabhas” rather than showing the original person.

“Like the way Megastar Chiranjeevi was presented in Acharya, with all VFX graphics, they presented Prabhas in Adipurush. All the demons that you usually see in video games on PlayStation can be seen in Adipurush, too,” he told a group of YouTube channels that are seeking public opinion about the epic drama.

The filmgoer also felt that Lord Rama’s character from the epic Ramayana didn’t suit actor Prabhas.

“While the Rebel Star looked like a king with all his royalness in SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali, the actor failed to impress in the present one,” he added.

Irked fans beat up reviewer

However, these remarks irked a couple of Prabhas’ fans present nearby who came upon him angrily and hurled abuses. The film lover was asked to stop talking before the camera about the movie.

Another youngster, who apparently looked miffed with the person’s views, politely asked him to leave the place before he was thrashed by the fans.

Nevertheless, In less than a minute, the youngsters who warned the reviewer lost patience and started showering blows on him. The video of this incident went viral on Twitter.

Mixed reactions in North India

Meanwhile, Adipurush is registering mixed reviews in the Hindi belt. While fans and film aficionados keep praising Prabhas’ outstanding performance as Lord Raghav in the film, serious movie lovers looked dejected with the poor visual effects and the lengthy second half with nothing to get excited about.

Om Raut, who directed Adipurush, started trending on Twitter with trolls taking a dig at the making. Fans openly slammed the director for making a pan-India star “a buffoon”.

Trade pundits predict that collections of Adipurush might take a dip following mixed reviews at the box office. A day before its release, industry experts predicted that the film may collect ₹70 crore in all languages on day one.

Few more incidents reported

Meanwhile, here are a few bizarre events reported across the Telugu states where some frenzied fans were caught celebrating Adipurush and even vandalising theatres.

Clamour and euphoria are evident whenever a film of a star like Prabhas hits the screens. And so is an extravagant display of fandom that sometimes goes out of bounds. As Adipurush fever gripped Prabhas fans on Friday, here are a few incidents that took centre stage on social media platforms.

An over-enthusiastic fan, apparently in an inebriated condition, was caught slashing his forearm with a broken glass piece that he broke. Dancing hysterically to the beats, other youngsters are drowned in the moment of frenzy, unaware of the consequences at the place.

The incident attracted public outrage, with some expressing disgust at the way it is being celebrated while others commented how the films serve as opium giving a never-ceasing high to people.

Frenzied fans from Bhimavaram

In another video posted by Yaswanth Prabhas, a Prabhas fan himself, a legion of fans held a rally at midnight on Thursday, 15 June, in Bhimavaram — Prabha’s hometown in Andhra Pradesh.

Apparently, the video shows youngsters taking out a bike rally holding saffron flags ahead of Adipurush’s release.

Bhimavaram served as a fiefdom for Prabhas’ uncle late actor-politician Krishnam Raju. Although Prabhas studied in Chennai and later in Hyderabad, his connection with the coastal town of Bhimavaram is inseparable.

Confetti custom

How would a serious-movie lover feel when a bunch of fans throw confetti in the air as a custom while blocking the film’s view when a film’s screening is underway?

This video shows Prabhas fans jumping with excitement, throwing confetti (torn paper) in the air, as they block the view while Adipurush is being screened.

However, the irksome and annoying one might feel that it’s been a custom to celebrate any big star’s film to throw confetti in cinema halls. Now, celebrations are mostly restricted to single-screen theatres and it is hardly visible in multiplexes and cinema malls in the cities.

Angry mob vandalises theatre

Another incident that surfaced in Telangana is a group of fans vandalising the infrastructure of a cinema hall.

After reportedly being annoyed over the delay of Adipurush screening, they took to violence and breaking the window panes of a theatre near RC Puram.

Om Raut gets routed in style

“Om Raut, come to my room”, the dialogue has become so synonymous with Adipurush and Prabhas.

Unfortunately, it evokes laughter every time you hear it.

Here is a dejected fan who comes out of the theatre to give a single-line review about Adipurush, albeit with a smiling face — “Om Raut, come to my room!”

Other fans jocularly expressed their opinion to YouTubers saying they fell asleep in their seats after they were awake the whole night.

Another reviewer says, “Om Raut, please address pettu.. sampesthara ninnu (Om Raut give your address, I will kill you!)

Thrashed for occupying Hanuman’s seat

In another incident, a filmgoer was thrashed for occupying a seat that was allotted to Lord Hanuman.

The incident reportedly took place at Bramaramba Theatre in Hyderabad during the screening of an early morning show.

The customary seat allotment to Lord Hanuman is being followed in every cinema hall. The seat is decorated with flowers with the photograph of the deity placed on the seat.

Probably this poor fan couldn’t check his ticket and sat in Hunuman’s seat only to get abused by fans early in the morning.
