Popular Tamil actor-director Marimuthu passes away due to heart attack

Marimuthu was dubbing for a Tamil television serial titled 'Ethir Neechal' when he fell unconscious.

Well-known Tamil film director-actor Marimuthu passed away in Chennai on Friday, 8 September, after suffering a heart attack.

He was 58 and is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.

Sources close to the actor said the veteran character artiste, who played significant roles in superhit films like Rajinikanth’s Jailer, was dubbing for a Tamil television serial titled Ethir Neechal on Friday morning when he suddenly fell unconscious.

He was rushed to Soorya Hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors.

The body of the actor will be kept at his residence in Chennai until tonight for the public to pay homage. The final rites will be performed at his native place Varusa Naadu in Theni.

Marimuthu, who was with National Award-winning lyricist Vairamuthu in the initial stages of his career, later joined director Vasanth as an assistant director.

After working with Vasanth for a while, he directed some films, including Pulivaal (2014) and Kannum Kannum (2008).

Then, he turned into a character artiste and was a part of several significant Tamil films like director Mari Selvaraj’s critically acclaimed superhit film Pariyerum Perumal (2018).

The sudden demise of the actor, known to be very vociferous about societal issues, has shocked both his fans and the Tamil film industry.
