Popular dialogues and lyrics from the critically acclaimed Kannada films Bangarada Manushya (1972) and Daredevil Musthafa (2023) have been mentioned in the Karnataka State Budget 2024-25.
This highlights a significant intersection between the entertainment industry and government affairs.
Notably, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah incorporated a few lines from Daredevil Musthafa in the Karnataka Budget, thus underscoring the influence of artistic expression on public policy discourse.
This integration of cinematic dialogue into official proceedings reflects a nuanced approach to governance, recognising the power of storytelling in conveying social messages.
The inclusion of movie lines, particularly from Daali Dhananjaya-presented Daredevil Musthafa, demonstrates a broader recognition of the artistic contributions.
The lines mentioned in the budget are: “Ondu totadalli nooru hoovu aralali, yella koodi aduvantha gali beesali“. A rough translation of the same means, “Let hundreds of flowers blossom in a garden where there is a breeze that makes all the flowers sway”.
A comedy-drama, Shashank Soghal’s directorial debut Daredevil Musthafa draws inspiration from Poornachandra Tejaswi’s short story of the same name found in “Abachoorina Post Office“.
Its production involved the collaboration of over 100 fans of the esteemed writer Tejaswi, who collectively served as producers.
Also, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s reference to a popular line from a song featuring Dr Rajkumar in the iconic Bangarada Manushya (1972) further underscores the deep-rooted cultural significance of cinema in Karnataka.
The popular song “Agadu Endu Kai Katti…” is penned by RN Jayagopal to the music composed by GK Venkatesh in the voice of legendary playback singer PB Srinivas.
Daali Dhananjay’s multifaceted involvement in filmmaking, from production to acting and even scriptwriting, highlights their integral role and his love for cinema.
Furthermore, the actor-producer’s recent appointment as the brand ambassador for LIDKAR (Dr Babu Jagjivan Ram Leather Industries Development Corporation Limited) reflects industry recognition of his influence and stature.
The symbolic gesture of the Chief Minister carrying budget copies in a LIDKAR bag signifies a departure from traditional formalities, embracing cultural symbols.
