Actor Muralidhar Goud

Muralidhar Goud has, of late, become a familiar face in Telugu cinema. His latest outing, director Rupak Ronaldson’s Pareshan (2023), is doing well at the box office. His role as Samarpan, who wishes to retire and pass on his job to his son, derived applause among audiences.

The actor is present in almost every mid-budget film these days and is doing a variety of roles.

In fact, Muralidhar Goud has become the go-to person for any filmmaker who needs an actor to speak in the Telangana dialect.

Full-time actor after retirement

The actor worked in the Electricity Board at Mint Compound in Hyderabad and retired. He stays away from PR and publicity and considers only those offers that come his way.

Muralidhar Goud has not appointed any manager till recently who can get him work and promote him in the Telugu film industry.

The actor says, “I was unaware that we have to knock on the doors of production houses, click pictures and give auditions. My ambition was to be an actor. After retirement, I opted for television serials.”

Before retirement, he used to do one or two scenes for TV serials.

“I attend the shoot in the mornings and wrap up my scene by 10.30 AM. Then, I get back to the office. I was in such a comfort zone. I would shoot 10 days a month,” he told South First about his salad days in the industry.

Transition to big screen

However, after seeking the counsel of a few industry people, Muralidhar Goud started looking for roles in films.

The directors noticed an ease in his body language and dialogue delivery while facing the camera, and roped him in for their projects.

“I did several ‘Gumpulo Govindam’ (one in many people) characters to observe and learn. I would carry my own clothes and do insignificant roles. They were all crowd scenes. On TV, I had dialogues and close-ups, but here, I was one amongst a reasonably good-looking group,” he recalled.

He shared one of his experiences. “Once, at least 150 people were made to stand barefoot in the scorching sun at Ramoji Film City. I argued that our faces won’t be seen and that it isn’t sensible to make us stand without footwear.”

“If we don’t follow the directions, we won’t be paid and instead, would get a bad remark,” he pointed out and confessed that films are far more comfortable than the small screen.

Hard work paid off

If an actor doesn’t do the required scene well, it would get postponed to the next day. That would be a huge waste of money as the production doesn’t get location permissions easily.

This made Muralidhar Goud practice his dialogue perfectly. Albeit small footage, he insists on a proper role.

The actor’s hard work and persistence paid off and he began delivering successive hits.

Other projects in line

“Tharun Bhaskar offered me a role in Pitta Kathalu (2021) where I played an ex-MLA. Director Venu Yeldandi saw the film and offered me Balagam (2023). One film led to the other, and I bagged DJ Tillu (2022) and Mem Famous (2023),” Muralidhar Goud said.

Most of his films are successful, and he is considered an all-rounder after Kota Srinivasa Rao and Rao Ramesh. His next is a film with Balakrishna to be helmed by Anil Ravipudi where he plays the role of a national party president.

Also, he will play a cop in Vijay Devarakonda’s upcoming flick to be directed by Gowtam Naidu Tinnanuri.

Mangalavaram by Ajay Bhupati is about an incident that happens every Tuesday and people turn apprehensive. What happens then is unravelled in the story. The actor speaks in the Ahreyapuram (Andhra Pradesh’s Konaseema district) dialect in the film.

Acquiring a skill comes naturally to Muralidhar Goud. When he isn’t at shoot, he enjoys his time with his grandchildren.
