Noted playback singer Mangli’s acting debut film in Kannada, Paadaraya, lands in trouble after its director DJ Chakravarthy Chandrachud walked out of the project. The filmmaker reportedly quit the project following differences with the actor-director Nagashekar who is playing the male lead in the movie.
Mangli is pairing up with Nagashekar in the multilingual project. It is primarily being made in Kannada and released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi.
The singer acted in a couple of Telugu films. Her singing popularity led her to several offers in Kannada films.
So far, Mangli sang several popular numbers in Sandalwood. Her latest hit is “Gilllakko” from Vedha produced under the Geetha Pictures banner with Dr Shiva Rajkumar in the lead.
Writer-director DJ Chakravarthy Chandrachud shared a detailed post on his social media account explaining the reason behind his decision to walk out of the project.
In the post, he cited Nagashekar as the main reason for his decision.
Initially, when the film was announced, Jack Manju of the fame of Vikrant Rona was producing the project (as per the posters).
The technical team comprised noted cinematographer Satya Hegde, music composer Ajaneesh Loknath and editor Antony.
Also, the other reason behind Chakravarthy quitting the project is that there is no clarity over who is producing the movie.
The director stated that Jack Manju made it clear that he is not producing the film following his business reasons. Though R Chandru agreed to produce the film, there was no agreement signed on the same!
The director took the matter before the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) stating that he has nothing to do with the financial transactions made by Nagashekar and his team as regards Paadaraya.
“I had to make things clear before the KFCC and to safeguard the story which I have penned, based on the characters of a wife and a husband residing in Anjanadri Hills. The husband’s role is that of a thief who steals shoes/chappals. I got the copyright of the story through the proper legal process,” he added.
After approaching the KFCC, the director shared that he will soon make the film with the same title, perhaps with a new team, and will also play the lead.
