Director Pa Ranjith’s eagerly-awaited Thangalaan, featuring actors Vikram and Malavika Mohanan in the lead, wrapped up its shooting on Tuesday 4 July.

It is believed to have been set against the backdrop of Kolar Gold Fields during the pre-Independence era.

The movie also casts Hollywood actor Daniel Caltagirone, best known for his performances in the Oscar-winning feature film The Pianist (2002) and Lara Craft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2000).

Parvathy, Pasupathy, Muthukumar, and Hari Krishnan are also an integral part of Thangalaan.

Needless to say, the project triggered huge expectations among movie lovers, especially Vikram’s fans.

A source close to the unit said Thangalaan has been shot in 118 days. “The last schedule took place in Madurai and lasted a little over a fortnight. It came to a close on 4 July.”

The source also noted that Pa Ranjith extracted exceptional performances from the lead cast by pushing them to give their best.

‘Set the bar too high’

Actress Malavika Mohan confirmed the same through a post on social media.

She wrote: “I don’t even know where to begin… A film that came my way in the most unexpected way at an unexpected time, a film that tested my physical, mental and emotional endurance in a way nothing ever has, a film where I got to collaborate with some of the most talented artists, not to mention some of my favourites.”

The actress further added, “You have artistically spoilt me @ranjithpa @the_real_chiyaan & the rest of the team and set the bar too high. Who will match this now?”

“It’s finally a film wrap and I’m going to wallow in an existential crisis for a few days. If blood, sweat and tears were a film, this literally would be it,” the Thangalaan actor said.

‘Lived the dream’

Chiyaan Vikram, too, took to social media to register his thoughts on being part of Thangalaan.

He wrote: “And it’s a wrap!! What a journey!! Worked with some of the most amazing people and had some of the most evocative experiences as an actor. Was it just 118 working days between the first pic and the last. Thank you Ranjit for making us live this dream. Every single day.”

Thangalaan has music by GV Prakash, cinematography by Kishore Kumar, and art direction by SS Moorthy.

It is jointly produced by Gnanvelraja’s Studio Green and Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Productions.
