Not many, especially from Generation Z, would be aware of musical events from orchestra troops with performers of artists of their own who usually present popular numbers from movies for the local audience.

However, anyone who has visited the Gandhinagar area in Mysuru would immediately recognise them.

They perform during festivals and other events organised by the locals. The fee they charge depends on how popular the troop is.

The film Orchestra Mysuru is a docu-drama of such troops and their struggles, presented through a protagonist who aspires to showcase his singing talent in one such troop.

Also, it is inspired by two musicians who hail from such an orchestra troop, with one of them eventually making it big!

Though all of it sounds melodious for a soothing experience, the duration of the movie, which is almost three hours, is the biggest challenge for the audience. In other words, it is an express highway filled with road humps.

The writer and the director have gone on to stretch what could have been conveyed in a few words to the maximum.

Excessive drama

The film is bogged down by excessive drama and disjointed sequences.

In short, it talks about Poorna, the protagonist, who works as an assistant at a dental clinic situated in a commercial complex, but has two things on his mind — to be a singer in an orchestra and to impress a girl who works in a beauty parlour right in front his complex building.

He has a group of friends and well-wishers who encourage his dream to be an orchestra singer.

Dileep Raj does well in the role of Naveen Raj, the star singer of an orchestra he runs with the biggest ambition in his life is the crux behind the second half.

The saving grace of this long-drawn venture is a couple of songs that have Daali Dhananjaya’s lyrics: They impress the most.

Otherwise, it is the stellar performance of Poornachandra and Dileep Raj that forces us to hold on to our seats till the end.

Will Poorna and Naveen Raj realise their dreams?

Go watch to find out if you love orchestra music, Mysuru city, and decent performances.

Most of it requires loads of patience to sit for three hours. If you can do that, this one is tailor-made for you.

Verdict

A poorly made film with excessive drama, Mysuru Orchestra, is watchable due to the performances of Poornachandra and Dileep Raj and the impressive songs by Daali Dhananjaya.

The film would have been better if the director had worked on reducing the duration.
