No intimate scene shot with goat in 'Aadujeevitham, says director Blessy

Amid the rumours that the censor board removed an intimate scene between Prithviraj Sukumaran (who played protagonist Najeeb) and a goat in Blessy’s latest directorial Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life), the Malayalam filmmaker has clarified that no intimate scenes were shot in the film.

The particular scene referred to by the netizens was, however, mentioned in Benyamin’s novel “Aadujeevitham” based on which the movie was filmed.

Rumours of writer Benyamin divulging that an intimate scene was shot with a goat but was removed by the censor board have gone viral on social media.

Following this, social media is agog with discussions on the said scene. A few netizens supported (real-life) Najeeb for being victimised.

Responding to this, Blessy confirmed in an interview that no intimate scene was shot with a goat.

Aadujeevitham is my perspective of the novel’

Blessy reiterated that while making Aadujeevitham, he aimed to present his version of the novel. He said his Najeeb was different from that in the novel.

The director recalled discussing the particular sequence in the novel with his team during the film shoot. However, he asserted that his Najeeb would not indulge in such activities. “I haven’t filmed any such scene nor submitted it to the censor board,” he clarified.

Blessy revealed that the censor board asked him to remove a voice note where the name of a particular cigarette was mentioned. The team dubbed it as a “foreign cigarette”.

The Malayalam filmmaker also stated that he made Aadujeevitham out of a 246-page novel and everything won’t find a place in the movie as it was his perception of Najeeb.

“About 10 films can be made from the novel as it has minute details of Najeeb’s journey. Movies adapted from literary works only have one version of the summary,” he pointed out.

He cited the example of Akira Kurusova’s Throne of Blood, which was based on “Macbeth“.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj-starrer Aadujeevitham is making history at the box office by collecting a gross of over ₹80 crore worldwide in six days. It will soon enter the elite ₹100-crore club.
