Meiyazhagan certified 'U': Karthi says it's a heartwarming film

Karthi’s highly anticipated film Meiyazhagan has been censored with a “U’ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The film, which runs for 2 hours and 57 minutes, promises to be an engaging rural drama. It is set to hit the big screens on 27 September.

Directed by Prem Kuma, Meiyazhagan created significant buzz with its lengthy runtime. But it is expected to captivate audiences with its emotional depth and powerful performances. Karthi, Arvind Swami, Sri Divya, Devadarshini, and Raj Kiran take centre stage in this feel-good film.

The trailer for Meiyazhagan, released on 23 September, heightened expectations among fans. It showcases a heartwarming tale of friendship, family, and self-discovery.

The film explores how individuals, who migrate from villages to cities, struggle to reconnect with their native roots. This theme of displacement and nostalgia resonates deeply with audiences, making Meiyazhagan a film to watch out for.

Karthi plays a cheerful and innocent villager in this Tamil movie, while Arvind Swami portrays a city-dweller who returns to his native village after many years.

The trailer suggests that the emotional journey of these two contrasting characters will be the film’s core. The wedding backdrop adds layers to the narrative, offering moments of joy, tension, and self-reflection.

The strong cast and emotional storytelling paired with Prem Kumar’s direction built high expectations for the flick. Prem Kumar is known for his 2018 hit 96. This is his sophomore directorial and one of the most anticipated releases.

The soundtrack, composed by 96-fame Govind Vasanta, has Kamal Haasan lending his voice to a soulful song. It sets the tone for the film’s emotional depth.

Meiyazhagan will also be released in Telugu as Sathyam Sundaram but on 28 September. The film is set to clash with Vijay Antony’s Hitler, Prabhudheva’s Petta Rap, and Jr NTR’s Devara: Part 1 at the box office.

Arvind Swami and I shared a brotherly bond: Karthi

Addressing the Telugu media in Hyderabad, Karthi said his actor-brother Suriya hugged him after watching his debut film Paruthiveeran (2007). “After so many years, he hugged me again after watching Sathyam Sundaram. He was very proud of my performance in the movie. Sathyam Sundaram is a heartwarming film with feel-good entertainment.”

About his co-star Arvind Swami, he explained that his character grows up in a village and the film reflects his life. “He turned emotional after reading the script. We shared a brotherly bond on screen. One cannot imagine Meiyazhagan without Arvind Swami,” Karthi quipped.

The Tamil actor also revealed that similar to 96, the entire story of Sathyam Sundaram unfolds in a single night. “The film portrays the unconditional love our family gives us. It’s about our culture, our roots and feels much like K Viswanath’s Sagara Sangamam and Oopiri.”

Addressing the box office clash with Devara: Part 1, Karthi said, “Sathyam Sundaram will be released on 28 September to avoid a clash with NTR’s Devara. The latter is like a war movie, while our Sathyam Sundaram is more like Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu.”

Produced by Suriya and Jyothika under their 2D Entertainment banner, Sathyam Sundaram is being presented by Asian Suresh Entertainments LLP.
