Demonte Colony 2 Tamil directors meet and Million Dollar Studios next

Several of Tamil cinema’s top directors recently got together and had a pleasant time at ace director Mani Ratnam’s place.

Some of those who were present at the event included directors Shankar, Lokesh Kanagaraj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Karthik Subbaraj, AR Murugadoss, and Lingusamy.

On the occasion, the filmmakers reportedly shared some laughs, recalled a few memories, and vibed to the hits of Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman.

Sharing a picture of the get-together on his social media handle, director Shankar wrote: “Thank you Mani sir for the truly special evening! Catching up with these fine and celebrated filmmakers, sharing memories while making them, vibing to some evergreen Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman songs sung by Karthik… I feel these moments are the true wealth that we’ve earned! And thank you Suhasini Haasan for the hospitality!”

Director Karthik Subbaraj wrote, “Ponmaalai Pozhuthu… means… Whattey lovely evening…”

This isn’t the first time that the top directors of Tamil cinema congregated for such an informal get-together. They have been doing it occasionally since 2018 when the first such get-together happened.

The first get-together happened at director Mysskin’s office when over 25 directors arrived to honour director Shankar who completed 25 years in the film industry.

Interestingly, the recent meeting at director Mani Ratnam’s place comes at a time when director Shankar’s blockbuster film Gentleman (1993) completed 30 years.

Demonte Colony, a gripping thriller, was an instant hit. Now, eight years later, the same core unit that made the blockbuster is back with a sequel.

Harish Kannan is the cinematographer and Sam CS is the music director. Ravi Pandi is the art director and D Kumaresh is the editor.

The film was initially produced by Vijaya Subramaniyan on behalf of White Nights Entertainment along with RC Rajkumar of Gnanamuthu Pattarai.

However, Cyber Forensics expert Bobby Balachandran procured all the rights to this film even before its completion and thereby turned its producer.

Balachandran’s firm BTG Universal will now take over the process of presenting the film across the globe.

The movie was shot in Hosur, Chennai, and other places on the borders of Andhra. The post-production work is in full swing.
